Warhammer Fest 2016 - Part One - Blood Bowl.

I will do a few posts covering today's event, starting with Blood Bowl...

Had a number of conversations with the team, especially Andy Hoare who put up with me going back about four times (though one conversation was mainly to do with Adeptus Titanicus). Thankfully he is a man with a lot of patience.

First up what I can remember:

The release is hoped to be end of the year.

Box set contains the first two teams, Orcs and Human in plastic.
The pitch is double sided with a Human pitch on one side and an Orc pitch on the other.
The rules have not been changed, they are the rules which has been around for a while now.

In total there will be six teams in plastic (Human, Orc, Skaven, Elf, Nurgle and Dwarf). Other teams will follow in resin. There is also likely to be resin conversion sets.

There will be more pitches which will also be double sided (Dwarf/Skaven & Elf/Nurgle) with more possible later including tournament specific ones.

They are looking at neoprene pitches but as yet they don't know, it comes down to cost and if they can get them in large enough quantities and other factors but it is something they would like to have.

Several expansions are mapped out including the first one covering seven more teams and league rules.

If all goes well Dungeon Bowl will also see the light of the day.

Pushkin - Warseer

I had a really nice chat with Andy Hoare about blood bowl. This is done and will be out before Christmas, the models and the sprues were all done and they look great.

Humans and orcs are in the box, and then skaven and dwarves will be next. The pitch is reversible and has a human pitch one side and an Orc one the next side. Once they get skaven and dwarves out done they're going to do a similar double sided pitch for them. In terms of other plastic box sets they are going to do an elf team and one other team. Everything else will be resin. Special characters are in the works, but rules for some of them are already done.

Xanthos - DakkaDakka

I asked about rules changes yesterday. The core rules are unchanged, but the rules for perpetual leagues have been tweaked quite a bit, as they didn't really work before. Also they said that there will be two or maybe three special play decks.

The four first star players will be Griff Oberwald, The Mighty Zug, Morg'n'Thorg and Varag Ghoulchewer. Zug and Morg are finished and look fantastic.

He said that even with the last versions of star players we got from GW being fantastic sculpts, their new ones are even better! They are planning to release these alongside the main game in December.

BrookM berichtet im DakkaDakka Forum vom Forgeworld European Day 2016

Had a lovely chat with Andy Hoare, who is in charge of the project and Mark Bedford, who did most of the excellent concept art, they're hoping for a December 2016 release, but he was quick to rightly add that he's in charge of everything but the price and the release date.

Also interesting to note is that this project was a bit of a rush, as they cranked out the miniatures for this one in NINE MONTHS, whereas it usually takes up to two years for them to work things out from concept to final model.

Old heroes will also return, some as coaches, some as players. Amongst those mentioned are good old Grif and LORD BORAK! There was even talk of bringing back the advice column!

The box on display by the way is a complete product, not a rough sample or a thrown together concept, this was the first boxed set of their production run.

Dwarfs and Skaven will also be plastics (except for the Death Roller, which will be in resin, complete with a beer swilling Dwarf), everything else will be resin. If a team proves successful enough in sales, it will be turned into plastics further down the road.

The rules are unchanged, maybe one or two things altered for speed (like replacing the random chit to determine which player is randomly overcome with something by a custom D16), but they are intact and the same as the last version GW put out for download a few years ago.

And yes, if you like it, PLEASE DO SUPPORT THEM WITH YOUR WALLET, because if this proves to be a success they will most certainly pour more resources into this.

Old models can still be used, its just this time around that they're really going all-out on sculpting models dedicated to the setting, explicitly stating that this is not part of the Warhammer Fantasy or Age of Sigmar settings, but another one altogether.

As for teams, not much I heard on that sadly, though I highly doubt anything will be invalidated, as they mentioned also wanting to run leagues built around older models as "historical" matches from days gone by.

Oh, there will also be a free app (with in app purchases of course) where you can easily run your own leagues and tournaments.

From what we were told, the app will have a wifi / blue tooth feature that allows it to link up with other devices that also have the app and share league information with one another, making it easier to keep track of everything.

The Nurgle team will be fun, the catcher art that Mark showed off had a large gaping mouth in the gut for catching balls, instead of a large glove or mitt like most normal catchers.

The boxed set includes a double sided pitch, one is the classic green field, the other was.. brown if I remember correctly?

They will do more types of pitch as more teams become available, so maybe a change in material will happen as well then?

While we're talking about the pitch, it was pointed out that the Death Roller has the same width as a lane of grass on the game board, this was done as a tongue in cheek reference that the device originally was a lawn mower first and foremost.

Finally, the art of the Goblins shown on the box cover so far has not been final, Mark Bedford did some new sketches and the upcoming Gobbo team will have special headgear, which when looked at from the side, will make their heads look like crescent moons, a classic Gobbo symbol.

People who do not like this feature or want to make their teams look different, no worries, the models have been designed with customisation in mind, plus the idea that upgrade kits or different teams will be sold in the future with different headgear or equipment to make them stand out from the rest.

One last thing I remembered, I'm not sure if this will also be in the rulebook, but Andy tracked down the original artist of the first edition art and asked him to do art for the game, which may, depending on how one feels about it, give it all a very nice retro look.

We also found out that the Facebook posts done in the style of Jim and Bob are done by two people, who each assume one of the characters and have a bit of banter together. They'll make a return to announcing things soon enough, as one of the two is now on a honeymoon IIRC.

They can't do them all in one go, they are going for the core choices (humans and orks) plus the other popular ones (dwarves and skaven) first before moving on to others.
