<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>It'll be a brief report. I have several pictures of the Chaos sprues (except Possessed, which was not there), and some pics of completed models, but my wife has the laptop the camera connects to. I apologize for that, since this post will be all words.
I attended the first "Product" session, which lasted about an hour. Jervis was the speaker, and I'll try and be as accurate as possible.
WD Army List:
BA fit the timeline and plan. Don't expect another army list in WD anytime soon. They were starting a precedent. Consider it a happy accident.
Fantasy was first:
Some discussion regarding that this set of buildings and trees were the second draft...the first weren't Warhammer enough. 7th edition was written to improve the building rules in preps for these kits. The hills and trees are also designed to balance appearance and playability. The trees are mounted on a base clearly defining the terrain feature.
The plastic wizards, by Nelson, were partially an attempt to "3-D" the plastic. To make the models less "flat". The theory behind many of the new plastic kits is to include plenty of gubbins for other models, or for flavor purposes (the pony for the Miners kit). They don't like wasted space, so they plan on filling up the sprues. Same goes for the Empire Artillery plastics and the Flagellants. Plenty of extra weirdness. And every option available...this comment was reiterated in discussion of the following kits.
The Black Orks, by Hedstrom, were a bit of a different challenge. Because of the size, they wanted to know if they could fit all of the options onto a regular sized sprue. Based on the success of the kit, the designers now feel any unit can be made in plastic. That was Jervis' exact description...now they can just point at a unit, and they expect to make it possible.
Mighty Empires:
Expect more rules online and in WD. Perfect for the kinds of campaigns that involve house rules - recommended clubs/players do the same. Only 5 pages of rules (as expected).
LOTR:
Return of the King
Gondor in Flames
You've seen the models. There are four scenarios that branched together make a Battle of Pelannor Fields. The Perrys do most of the models.
Warhammer 40K / Codex: Chaos Space Marines:
This was the largest part of the session, and generated the most questions. I'll bulletize, as that makes remembering specifics a bit better.
- Jervis was NOT the author, he specifically noted that some thought he was. In fact, Alessio and Gav Thorpe are the authors.
- Lots of new background, because...
- The previous edition lended itself to playing one of the First Founding Chaos Legions. That wasn't "Chaotic" enough, leading to similar Chaos armies.
- This edition will include the major Chaos legions, but also focus on renegade armies, outside of the Eye. That's where a lot of the new background comes from.
- The studio expects to release a Codex: Daemonic Legions next year. Nothing firm. It'll include tougher daemons (the rumor regarding the single Lesser statline/Greater statline in CSM is correct). In C:CSM, the summoned daemons are a bit weaker.
- There is the expectation in larger games that units from both Codicies will be used. He did not specify if it would be like Hordes/Beasts from WHFB. He just said large games could use parts of both.
- All old characters are present.
- 104 pages
- 5 plastic kits (I assume the Possessed, Termie Lord, Termies, Spawn, standard CSM)
- 3 blisters (I assume Huron, Fugly Raptor Lord, and Khorne Lord)
- Battleforce
- Army Box (they showed a picture of the box)
The army box included:
Termie Lord
5 Termies
15 CSM (might have been 10, pretty sure it was 15)
Khorne Berzerkers (12?)
5 Possessed
Defiler
And I think it included 2 Spawn. Which means it includes 1 each of the new sprues.
Lastly, they discussed the existing Chaos range, and Jervis gave the wink, wink recommendation to buy lots of tanks for OCTOBER.
Q & A:
A question was asked about Assault Cannons and Combat Squads:
Jervis basically stated that the idea behind flexible squad size was to allow for squads to have had "pre-game" casualties. No one goes to war at full strength. What ended up happening was mathematical decisionmaking to maximize firepower...in effect, an organization structure out of line with the background. To remove that option, they changed the rules in DA/BA to follow the background. Regarding the AC, same thing. Codex chapters have 5 man Terminator squads w/one heavy weapon. The two was made available for folks fielding non-Codex chapters. But again, it became standard, so they changed the rules.
Jervis did not say there would be a revision to C:SM. But based on his reasoning, if they redo SM, fully expect combat squads and one heavy weapon for 5 man Termie squads. That's speculation on my part, so don't put words in his mouth on that.
Apocalypse:
- Designed to put the fun back in the games
- Large games
- He confirmed a plastic Baneblade
- Themed games
- Jervis called it the most important supplement in 40K history, for the above reasons: themed games, "use all your models", etc
- Speculation by MYSELF: GW is putting a lot into Apocalypse because it is the type of ruleset only GW can do. It puts a dividing line between GW and Warmachine/FoW/Rackham/etc.
Lost and the Damned/Traitor Guard: Maybe in a campaign list or WD later (more speculation by me - maybe something in the Codex: Daemonic Legions).
Space Orks: Coming soon. "2008 will be very green."
Lastly, and near and dear to my heart...
Space Wolves:
Jervis said some Codex redos are easy and some are hard. He then said that SW are very hard. He also said they are "on the schedule", and present the opportunity for some "amazing plastic kits".
SPECULATION ALERT - based on Harry's rumors, I imagine SW are in the model design phase now...why else mention amazing plastic kit possibilities. They are probably late 2008, early 2009, as Jervis said they aren't close.
Lastly, a general comment by Jervis. Plastic kits used to be an end. Now they are a mechanism for players making their own designs. Hence the huge variety. Kits are now designed several at a time, and planned out so they interact with each other. This allows the metals to be characters, or passion projects, etc. for the sculptors.
Thanks for reading. I'll work on the pictures and discuss the Chaos sprues everyone handled a little later. They are extremely, extremely impressive.

Here is some items gleamed from the second New Product Seminar. Most of what was stated by the OP was given in the second presentation.
-Jervis mentioned that the Mighty Empires expansion for Warhammer was designed to be very simple, only about 5 pages or so of rules. He mention that the was some discussion at the Studio regarding creating a 40K variant of the tiles, nothing in stone, just being talked over. He did mention that it would be simple to convert them over and alter the rules for 40K.
-When the Ork Codex is to be released, they intend to return some of the humor to them. Note, he did mention that they will not be as "slapstick" as second edition.
-If Space Hulk gets a new treatment, it will most likely not be by GW directly, but instead through Black Industries (think Talisman).
-They want to reduce variant army lists (LotD, Speed Freaks) and stick to core armies. Variant lists will be avaible via expansion books and "other" means. Any army theat gets a Codex is in it for the long haul and GW means to constantly revisist, revitalize and release new products for that range. For the Squat lovers, Jervis mention that if they ever did come back in a Codex, it means they are golden....they won't go away after that (not that he said it is happening)
-The BA rules in WD were an experiment. They developed the BA rules along with/after the DA rules. He mentioned that it is possible for other armies to get the same treatment, but there are no actual plans for this at this time.
-In the Q&A section, someone asked about High Elves. Jervis responded that he couldn't comment on anything outside of the 3-4 month product window. However, Jervis responded to a question regarding the possibility of a plastic dragon kit that it would be an appropriate release to coincide with the HE's, but again, he can't comment on products outside the 3-4 months.
-Jervis wasn't the only one to drop the hint that tanks would be heavily favored in the near future.
-Supporting the above, it was overheard that Armoured Companies would be returning to the game very soon, just not in a codex....
At the Forgeworld booth, came across the attached picture in the sketch books. Haven't seen it here before, but if it's been posted prior, my apologies.
http://www.warseer.com/forums/attachment.p...mp;d=1182654833
Owen from FW walked away prior before I saw the picture so I was unable to ask, but given the size, design and armaments, it is perhaps an Ork flyer or super heavy flyer. Wish I had a definite answer, as I would love to know my self.[/b]
<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>
<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>Forgot to mention these as well....
-Dark Eldar are planned, but just not on the current radar. Who knows when they'll see a new codex, but they do plan to continue supporting them.
-For the Chaos Codex releases, Jervis mentioned that plans are in place for a 40K demon Codex (See OP). He noted that at this time, there are no plans for Legion specific books, but the possibility is there.
-Confirming the OP, the Chaos Spawn will have 2 spawns, the sprues seemed to confirm this as well[/b]
I got a little bit of news about apocalypse.
Jervis in a 1on1 talk said that the designers are very excited about Apocalypse and it is aimed towards veteran gamers. It is being treated as an expansion but the book itself does not contain many new rules. The rules are exactly 40K + a few new things for using super heavies.
The rules are 40K but making an army is similar to Epic where you can take anything you want and there is no Force Organization. Jervis's example was "if you want to take 50 obliterators you can, but your friends may not want to play you all day." Which I think is awesome. The goal of the game is to allow veteran players to simply "use all their models in a big game".
Jervis said they have played 20K pt games per side with three players on each side and it went smoothly. The book will contain lots of advice for creating a large game, suggestions for games and focuses on making the large game themed instead of just a duke it out with equal sides. It sounds great to me.
Also not sure if its been noted before but all Khorne beserkers are WS5. Also a unit of 9 Thousand Sons with a Sorcerer with Doom Bolt is 274 points.
There is more but that is what I found interesting and other people will have more pictures. Jervis was pretty chatty and he said we will see much more info about Apocalypse within the next month. Cheers, Games Day rocked.
Oh and the word is Forge World, Adeptus Mechanicus IA7.[/b]
<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>
<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>Hey guys, just throwing in my hat to this ring. I was also in the first product seminar and got a chance to catch up with Jervis after the seminar to get some further clarification regarding some things he spoke about. I simply
want to clarify the tone Jervis used to answer some of these questions and such.
Space Wolves - After all was said and done about GW trying to bring Space Marines more in line with the fluff (i.e. marines only organize in groups of 5 or 10 not in between), the SW question arose and Jervis pointed out that the SW are going to be a difficult army list to produce based on how the SW organize and that they essentially break the mold of the codex chapters, so it would take quite a bit of time to get them together. Also the way in which he said this really made it sound much more like the SW were still very much in an infancy since they hadn't even decided whether or not they would include the 13th Company - a whole other issue that would screw things up since they are more like 2 seperate armies anyway, and GW is trying to move away from that and toward the "one list to rule them all" approach. Anyway, that was my take. I wouldnt get your hopes up for SW anytime soon
Chaos SM - While talking to Jervis regarding the CSM 'dex he volunteered some information about the "Demonic Legions" 'dex that would be released in the future (no idea when). In it would be full and unique statlines for each of the demonic troops and demons themselves rather than the generic Greater/Lesser stats you will see in the CSM 'dex. Also spoke of rellease dates for CSM - to which he replied September. Didn't see that get posted in the original thread.
Lastly, this question was my own that I was able to ask in our post-seminar discussion regarding the lovely Eldar and why the Solitaire wasn't included in the 'dex with the other Harlequins. He smirked at that and (to my pleasant surprise) said "oh, no we didnt get rid of it!" Then told me to be patient and that soon (though I doubt it will be REALLY soon at all) more good things will be coming in that avenue. PURELY SPECULATION - Dark Eldar...more Harlies?...perhaps Solitaire in their 'dex? i can only hope pray and dream that it would be....assuming that there really will be a DE 'dex.[/b]
Defiler!
Gets Fleet (no, really!). Same point cost.
Raptors!
Absurdly cheap [20 Pts]. No hit and run. And by absurdly cheap, I mean subtract Tzeentch's favored number from the point cost per model.
Greater Daemons, Lesser Daemons and Spawn take up no FOC slots whatsoever. I see this as a slightly two-edged sword, particularly if you want to go daemon heavy, but... tough. Oh, Spawn are twice the cost of the new raptor cost.
Chaos Space Marines. Not sure of the changes here. The icons seem... pricey. There were two squads, both total 220 points.
1- 10 marines, aspiring champion w/ power weapon, meltagun and Icon of Khorne
2- 10 marines, aspiring champion w/ power fist, 2 plasma guns and Icon of Chaos Glory.
Same total cost, but the different equipment makes the icons seem pricey. Someone who's gotten more sleep can work out the prices for things.
Rhino!
Cheap, like Dark Angels. Smoke and searchlights built in.
Cult squads are troops.
Obliterators. Heavy support, 0-1 is gone, gone, gone. Slightly more expensive though, by a handful of points.
Terminators!
5-10. You can only have a second heavy weapon if you have 10.
Cheap. Really cheap. Loaylists-will-be-angry cheap.
Subtract Slaanesh's favored number from the current cost. Or cut the cost of a loyalist terminator by 25%. All terminators can still be upgraded to champions (+1 A), though I have no ideas how much that costs.
Thousand Sons. Sorcerer *must* be taken, and costs twice as much as the new Terminators [=60 Pts].
Possessed!
Not sure on exact cost, but a unit of 10 with an Icon of Tzeentch was listed at 300 points for the unit.
Doombolt psychic power!
AP change- now its for killing marines...[/b]
<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>
During the new product seminar at GD Balitmore - Jervis was fairly insistant that the publishing of future codexes in WD was NOT going to become a norm and most likely wouldn't have something like that happen again for quite some time (like not if they can help it). The BA got released because it was felt they really needed to give them a facelift since there codex hadn't had any sort of revision since the dinky 24 pager they released for 3rd ed. in 1998! I talked to him a bit afterward and discussed the Chapter Approved column in WD that used to handle that sort of thing (new rules and models) and he said that the ChapApp thing is something they are going to move away from in order to minimize confusion and convolution involving lists and which one has precedence, etc. So I wouldn't even speculate on WD being a new publishing forum for mini-dexes or variant army lists. The whole term "variant" is exactly what they want to avoid and is why they are really trying to make the new army lists as flexible as possible to keep any "variants" from happening (which IMO sucks since I love the variant lists you can do!). SW are big enough that they arent getting dropped and will get a 'dex. DE...well - i suppose we'll see. Anyway, that's straight from the man's mouth on that.[/b]
