"By the Emperor's wisdom, the truth has been revealed to me! They are the lost ones, the spirits of the Fire Hawks lost in the warp. They are back from the dead to wreak vengeance on the enemies of mankind!"

Chaos Lord Charak emptied his last bolter magazine into the figure before him, tearing deep into the dark armour and sending shards of ceramite in all directions. As he gIanced around him, he saw the rest of his brother marines doing the same. The battle was over. The might of the Word Bearers had won, but at what cost? The Chaos Space Marine looked around him, not since the seige of Terra had he ever seen such destruction, only now it wasn't the bodies of loyalist marines that surrounded him, it was his marines. In less than an hour over half of his war host had been destroyed by the sudden attack. But he had won! Surely the bodies of his enemies would be twice the number of his dead brethren? However as he searched the battlefield no enemy dead littered the ground. Looking down and expecting to see the shattered armour of his fallen opponent he found nothing save a few of the spent bolter shells which he had fired into the dark figure. Then Charak looked up in time to see the first of the Imperial ships arrive, it's guns bristling with energy and preparing to fire...
Imperial Governor Beliasus Thresh looked around him, the battle had been quick, the Chaos force had clearly been outnumbered by more than four to one. They never stood a chance. Yet judging by the number of enemy casualties, the original Chaos Warhost would have had no problem annihilating his planetary force. Someone or something had beat them here and had attempted to despatch the Chaos juggernaut single-handedly, and whatever it was, it had left a path of total destruction and annihilation.

"It was as I raised my eyes from prayer that I saw a strange host where moments before there was nothing but darkness. At first I thought it some connivance of the Orks, but as the host advanced I realised it was of Space Marines, though not of any chapter under the Emperor's sun. Their armour was coloured black and upon it was drawn chilling images of bones and fire, and on their helms they bore skulls. As they advanced an eerie glow shrouded them and fire seemed to dance about their feet. Like the bones of men in the torment of Purgatory they were, so that they looked more like skeletons than living men. Yet not a sound did they make."

Special Characters
Sergeant Centurius
Points Cost: 15 points
Points WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
Centurius +15 4 4 4 4 1 4 4 9 3+
Weapons: Bolt Pistol & Close combat weapon (attack bonus already added above), and the Animus Malorum
Special Rules: Sergeant Centurius counts as a veteran sergeant and may replace one of your Legion of the Damned sergeants in your army, Sergeant Centurius can not have any additional wargear and so he may not be put in a bike squad, or an assault squad equipped with jump packs. Note that he is not an independent character. Note that though Centurius is a special character he is just a veteran sergeant and so does not take up any choices on the mission organisation chart.
Animus Malorum: Sergeant Centurius carries an ancient relic which takes the form of a skull whose eyes blaze with a supernatural light when it’s power is unleashed. In the shooting phase instead of firing his bolt pistol Centurius may use the Animus Malorum. The Animus Malorum counts as a psychic power and so a psychic test must be taken in order for it to be used. After the psychic test is taken elect an enemy model within 12 inches, then roll 2D6, if the score is higher than the models leadership then the model’s soul is sucked into the warp regardless of wounds or armour. For every wound the model had one Legion of the Damned model may be resurrected with one wound, this cannot be used to increase a unit beyond it’s original size however it can be used to heal lost wounds for special characters.
"The lost one called Centurius carries a skull-shaped device known as the Animus Malorum. This must hold the answers that I seek! Alas, I have no time - the Inquisitor Darius has requested my report."
~ From the Diary of the heretic scribe Historicus Malarey, awaiting execution. ~
Historicus Malarey
Until being accused of heresy Historicus Malarey was given the task to observe and record the activities of that of the Legion of the Damned, because of this he has been seen in some situations in which the Legion of the Damned have fought however he does not gain any benefits from the Legion or any of it’s wargear and in effect is not a part of the Legion in any way.

Historicus Scribe Malarey Free 2 2 3 3 1 3 1 6 -
Wargear: Diary
Scribe Malarey is a pathetic scribe of the Imperium, he is not allowed to have any additional wargear of any kind.
Independent Character: Historicus Scribe Malarey is an Independant Character and so the rules for independent characters mentioned in the wh40k rulebook apply to him. (Malarey may not join a Legion of the Damned unit).
Special Rule: Hidden and Observant
It is extremely rare and near impossible for Historicus Scribe Malarey to actually be at the right place and at the right time in order for him to observe the Legion of the Damned in battle however, when he does, he does his best not to be discovered lest he foolishly lose his life. Therefore, Scribe Malarey may infiltrate even if the mission played does not allow it.
Diary: Historicus Malarey records all his findings in his diary, it is his greatest work and will go to almost any lengths to keep it in his possession. Therefore, he can re-roll any failed morale checks and his diary can be captured by the enemy like that of a standard if he is slain in battle. If Historicus Malarey is alive at the end of the game and the rules for victory points are used then the Legion of the Damned player gains an additional D3 multiplied by 5 victory points added to his score. This is because Historicus Malarey has successfully recorded another act of the Legion of the Damned, whether or not the Legion itself minds this. No one knows…
If Malarey is killed then the diary is dropped and may be recovered by the enemy like that of a normal standard. however, unless the enemy is Imperial they do not gain any of it's effects mentioned above.
If the enemy force is Imperial and they recover the diary then they get it's benefits instead! this is because they have are now aware of the mysterious enemy which has killed and terrorised so many of their battle brethren. They are also the only one's who might have the resources to be able to decipher Historicus Malarey's seemingly senseless handwriting... Therefore the enemy Imperial force may add D3 multiplied by 5 victory points to it's score instead of the Legion of the Damned player.
Inquisitor Darius
Points Cost: 45pts
Points WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv
Inquisitor 45 4 4 3 3 3 4 3 10 3+
Aided by the Imperial Tarot, members of the Inquisition have tried to investigate the Legion of the Damned on many occasions. Inquisitor Darius just happened to be mentioned by Historicus Malarey in White Dwarf 224. Therefore you may include an Inquisitor in your army however, like Historicus Malarey the Inquisitor does not benefit from the Legion or any of it’s wargear in any way or vice versa. Note that the Inquisitor takes up one HQ choice on your force organisation chart.
Independent Character: the Inquisitor is an Independant Character and so the rules for independent characters mentioned in the wh40k rulebook apply to him. (The Inquisitor may not join a Legion of the Damned unit).
Rules: Refer to page 261 in the Warhammer 40,000 3rd edition rulebook.
