I don't think I've seen this rumour, make the rounds yet on portent, but I know it has on some other message boards (I posted it on Mach's wood elf site myself).
Again this was something I've told whilst at the GT final. The person who gave me this rumour also claimed to be one of the wood elf play testers. But again I've got no idea how true it is.
This time its about a completely new unit for woodies.

The Winter Guard.

Fluff for them is pretty simple, but then also kinda of cool imo.
When the king and the queen are sleeping in the middle of winter, ready to be reborn the spring. Well this is when Athel Loren is at its weakest, so a new unit is formed just for this time, from the elite of the wood elven warriors, the Winter Guard.

Statswise they are just basically elite elfs, Ws5 and perhaps higher I or LD (but no chance at all of getting S)
It is also very possible they could be stubbern, like most guard units, but I wasn't told this (Just my own belief)

What is interesting about them, is their equipment.
Firstly they will get heavy armour and shield. Making them most heavily armoured of all elven elite infantry (heavy armour itself is super rare for woodies) and then we get their melee weapon.
Sword Staffs
They can basically be used in 3 different ways.
The second rank of the unit may else them as spears.
In the front rank they can be used one of 2 ways, firstly as a hand weapon, to get the hand weapon/shield bonus. Or they may be used as additional hand weapons. (Its also possible this is the new weapon of the glade guard as well, as the plastics look as if they are armed with this item).
All in all, I believe that this unit could be pretty cool, they can either have an excellent armour save (exspecially for an elven elite infantry unit) or throw a hell of a lot of low strength attacks and if they are stubborn as well, they would be an excellent unit to take a charge.
I'm afraid what I don't know is their cost. So if this rumour is true we could actually have a reasonable elven infantry unit for its cost. But then again its just as possible they could go the way of Durchii and Asur elite infantry, lovely models, but just to expensive points wise to be worth using.

und noch folgendes

This is something I heard on the second day of the UK GT, another rumour (but spoken to me as if it was fact). By someone who I again have no idea who he is or what he has to do with gw.

This rumour is about everyone's favorite female forest spirits.

Dryads

- They will be a core choice, but won't count towards any of the minimum core allowance
- They will be lowed in cost to 13 points.
- They will lose all aspects. The rule completely dropped.
- Their states are staying the same as they are now but with one change. They will only be strength 3.
- For some reason they are going to basically be demons. They will get the 5+ demonic ward save, they will cause fear, and be immune to pyschology. (I didn't here a mention about them going pop out of existance if they lose combat, like demons can. And I didn't think to ask at the time.

So if this is true they are basically just going to become, a more exspenice and less useful version of ghouls.
They will have slightly better stats (+1M, +1WS, +2I and the most useful +2LD) but on the minus side, they won't have poisoned attacks and won't be able to flee as a charge reaction.
All in all if this is true, the bringing woodies into line with the other elven armies has begun. Ie. The neuttering has started.

Mehr WE News:

Spotlight:

Quote:The only miniatures I saw were some basic archers and waywatchers, the archers had somesort of organic armour that was a mix of pieces of wood and rope and leaves, some had more heavier type of armour than others and the Waywatchers were really stunning, looked like present day waywatchers but in very dynamic poses (one seems to be jumping down shooting in mid air)

Spotlight 2:

Quote:The fluff is undergoing a mayor haul...the wood elves are now a race bordering on extinction, savagely fighting anyone and resorting to massive purges of their sorrounding lands, as well as migrating a lot to ensure their survival. This means their armies are not only restricted to guerrilla warfare but also capable of full size head to head engagements, though their numbers are few and they rely heavily on allied troops and special units (sylvan spirits and animal kindreds are amongst these).

Spotlight 3:

Quote:Wood Elf women participate much more in the new army than before, they are now to be found both as charachters and as as rank and file units

SPotlight 4:
WE archers will get S4 shots at close range. Waywatchers will get killing blow with arrows!!

<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>

Edit

Hier sind mehr neue Gerüchte:

So far alls I know is that

there will be 3 main types of armylist for them closecombat, skirmishy&shooty, and tree spirity

2 types of treemen small and large

no -1 at long range but get no -1 for moving and will get bonuses for closer range (unspecified) the idea is to get WE to perform more hit and run rather than standing on the opposite table edge and shooting.

getting their own spell law

models are going to be much more dynamic to look like they're jumping out of the woods for a few shots before running away.

-Apparently WE archers are going to be the most detailed plastic sprue GW have ever done.
-The spure includes many poses uncommon to plastic since WE will skirmish, such as kneeling archers, no single pose bret archers.
-The guys mentioned foliage and stuff also on the sprue.
-Likely 16 per box.
-Killing blow at short range, lack 36" range.

Other WE stuff:
-Very celtic as has already been suggested.
-Dryads, Naiads(spelling?)- a hero type are very lithe, thin and female.
-There was another type of dryad mentioned.
-No Gladeguard.

more dark fluff making them more neutral and less good
