Skeleton Warriors

Shambling mounds of bleached bones rising up from the battlefields where they were struck down; corroded weapons and shields clutched in their lifeless hands. Their sightless orbs in skulls denuded of flesh searching for the foes of the dark powers that command them from their resting places. Skeletons are the ultimate soldier as they no longer fear death and have, in fact, become Death itself, for every foe that they strike down rises again to swell their ranks.

FYI – Wargames Factory never paid Tim Barry for the right to sell these. Buying these is like buying a recast figure. They quote-unquote negotiated with Tim until they got the Freeform device in their lawyer’s hands – and then they stopped talking to him. He owns the copyrights on this sculpture and he’s being screwed over. Hopefully no retailer or distributor will be carrying these.

Thanks, Tony

Howard Whitehouse:
I’ll back Tony up on this one. Tim sent a series of files to China during the last months of 2010 (Amazons, Persians, Greeks, skeletons) and was promptly fired without notice – as I was, it should be said.

Tim hasn’t been paid a penny for his work and – since it seems that the controlling partner of WGF has quietly dissolved its US corporation and formed one in Hong Kong without informing several of the other owners in the company – it seems unlikely WGF ever intends to. It’s hard to get money from a company an ocean away if the debtor won’t play honest.

I know Tim well. He’s a family man with two small kids and a wife with health issues. Since he isn’t being paid for his efforts, I urge all potential customers simply to keep their hands in their pockets, or buy somewhere else. It’s an issue of integrity.

Heavy Armor Greek Hoplites $19.95

The Classical Age of Greek Warfare (5th century BC to about the end of the 4th century BC) saw the rise of city-states such as Athens and Sparta grow into world powers. By the 5th century BC the state had started taking a role in equipping those who would defend it and troops became more uniformly equipped. During this time hoplite warfare dominated the battlefields of Greece. The hoplite was a fully armored spearman who relied mainly on his round bronze shield for defense.

The hoplites kit consisted of a cuirass of either bronze or linen (reinforced with leather or metal), greaves, a helmet, shield, an eight-foot thrusting spear and a sword as a secondary weapon in case of a broken spear or if the fighting got too close to wield the spear effectively. Hoplites put their gear to deadly use when packed tightly into a formation known as a phalanx. About eight lines of men formed each phalanx (often eight men wide and as many deep). Men in the first few rows held their spears horizontally while the rows in back had their spears protruding through the gaps of the men in front: the back ranks pushed forward forcing those in front onward. The large bronze shields covered the hoplites body from neck to thigh as well as help protect the right side of the man to the hoplites immediate left. Lightly equipped Persian armies fell to smaller, more heavily equipped Greek armies on more than one occasion.

This kit contains 30-Heavily Armored Greek Warriors from the classical era. Suitable for use as any Greek city-state army including Athens and Sparta. They are either armored in bronze or linen cuirasses, have helmets, shields, spears and can be given swords. All models are supplied unpainted and require assembly. Shield decoration is not provided.

War of Spanish Succession Cavalry $19.95

“Grenadiers now change your song
And talk, no more of battles won
No victory shall grace us now
Since we have lost our Marlborough.”

During the War of Spanish Succession (1701-1714) Cavalry comprised about 30% to 40% of most armies. There were many terms used to describe cavalry including horse, cuirassiers, dragoons, horse grenadiers, light horse and hussars. Wargames Factory has produced a set that should meet the needs of nearly every army fielded by the majority of armies in this European conflict.

Our long anticipated War of Spanish Succession Cavalry set can be made into 12-Horsemen and comes with 12-horses, 12-sets of legs for riders, over 50-torsos (including armored torsos for cuirassiers) and over 60-heads (including tri-corn, helmeted, grenadier and dragoon headwear). They can be armed with a brace of pistols, muskets/carbines and/or swords. Heads and accessories are interchangeable with the WSS Infantry set for even more options! Models come with 25mm x 50mm cavalry bases and are supplied unpainted. Models require assembly.

Ashigaru Preview

Warfare in 16th Century Japan (known as the Sengoku Period or ‘Warring States’ Period) was characterized by rival Daimyo or warlords raising armies of thousands, making and breaking of alliances and the mad grab for power all while trying to position oneself to grab the ultimate prize – the title of Shogun (the military dictator whose power eclipsed that of the emperor). During this period the Ashigaru emerged as the backbone of these armies.
This is our second preview of 16th century Ashigaru. Thank you to everyone who has reviewed our first Ashigaru preview. We look forward your feedback!
(Please allow a few moments for download of the preview to complete.)
