Sonstiges Alliance Open - T9a GT and 40K Team Tournament

I got one more rules question regarding the army lists.
Do I have to mention Pregame Stratagems and Relics on the army List? I'm asking, because for psychic powers and warlord traits it is specifically stated in the army composition, that these can be chosen before every game.

They can be chosen at the start of the game, the only thing that is fixed is your Warlord

Hi Guys.

I have a quick question. There has been some confusion in our region about the "volley fire Rule" of tau Cadre Fireblades, regarding who can make use of it.

The wording is:
"Models in <SEPT> units within 6" of any friendly <SEPT> Cadre Fireblades[...]"

My reading is that each model in a unit that is within 6" benefits from the rule. So the 6" refer to the unit and not to the model. Strictly using the "within" and not the "wholly within" rule-phrase. So basicly functioning like any aura ability does. I guess the mentioning of "models" was there to prevent models to apply that rule multiple times in case they have multiple guns that qualify for it. But that matter is ruled by the FAQ by now anyway.

How is your take on this? It obviously has some impact on the list writing, so it would be good not to be suprised in live action but in advance to the tournament 🙂

Best Regards
Bjoern

Add-on: Also regarding the "volley fire" rule of the cadre fireblade.
The rule states, that you only gain the bonus shot if you are within half of the weapons range.
So if you fire a pulse-rifle (rapidfire 1, 30") you get to shoot 3 times within halfe range (15") because of the "rapidfire" rule and the "volley fire" both applying within half range.
If however you shoot on a distance beyond 15" you should by raw get to shoot one(1) shot.

The Tau FAQ however states and i quote:
"Note that for a model with a pulse rifle (a Rapid Fire weapon) this means that it would make two hit rolls unless the target is within half range, in wich case it would make three hit rolls."

That FAQ entry clearly contradicts the Rule as written in the Tau Codex. Since GW has a history of altering rules via FAQ and not strictly via Errata i would take that ruling for granted, since it fairly explicitly rules this case.
Would that be appropriate for your event, or would you take that specific FAQ entry out of effect?

Hello Bjoern,

the Volley Fire rule is in effect an aura ability so 1 model of the unit within 6" means the unit benifits from the volley fire rule. Hope this clears that up 🙂

FAQ/ERRATA

The current 40K Faq/ Erratta for T'au Empire they give an example in regards to the Fireblade's Volley Fire Rule. It states:

Q: With regards the Cadre Fireblade’s Volley Fire ability, what exactly is meant by ‘may fire an extra shot’? A: It means the player can make one more hit roll for each model. Note that for a model with a pulse rifle (a Rapid Fire weapon) this means that it would make two hit rolls unless the target is within half range, in which case it would make three hit rolls.

While the codex states:

Volley Fire: Models in <Sept> units within 6" of any friendly <SEPT> Cadre Fireblades may fire an extra shot with pulse pistols, pulse carbines and pulse rifles when shooting at a target within half the weapon’s range.

We strongly feel this is an oversight in regards to the rule and as such will rule in concordance with the RAW of the codex which means 1 extra shot only when shooting a unit within HALF range of the weapon. So NOT a blanked +1 shot the FAQ seems to suggest.

Hope this helps you decide on the final list for the deadline May 5th 🙂 Good luck!
