Hi Guys.
I have a quick question. There has been some confusion in our region about the "volley fire Rule" of tau Cadre Fireblades, regarding who can make use of it.
The wording is:
"Models in <SEPT> units within 6" of any friendly <SEPT> Cadre Fireblades[...]"
My reading is that each model in a unit that is within 6" benefits from the rule. So the 6" refer to the unit and not to the model. Strictly using the "within" and not the "wholly within" rule-phrase. So basicly functioning like any aura ability does. I guess the mentioning of "models" was there to prevent models to apply that rule multiple times in case they have multiple guns that qualify for it. But that matter is ruled by the FAQ by now anyway.
How is your take on this? It obviously has some impact on the list writing, so it would be good not to be suprised in live action but in advance to the tournament 🙂
Best Regards
Bjoern
Add-on: Also regarding the "volley fire" rule of the cadre fireblade.
The rule states, that you only gain the bonus shot if you are within half of the weapons range.
So if you fire a pulse-rifle (rapidfire 1, 30") you get to shoot 3 times within halfe range (15") because of the "rapidfire" rule and the "volley fire" both applying within half range.
If however you shoot on a distance beyond 15" you should by raw get to shoot one(1) shot.
The Tau FAQ however states and i quote:
"Note that for a model with a pulse rifle (a Rapid Fire weapon) this means that it would make two hit rolls unless the target is within half range, in wich case it would make three hit rolls."
That FAQ entry clearly contradicts the Rule as written in the Tau Codex. Since GW has a history of altering rules via FAQ and not strictly via Errata i would take that ruling for granted, since it fairly explicitly rules this case.
Would that be appropriate for your event, or would you take that specific FAQ entry out of effect?
