Bought the Path to Glory for Age of Sigmar, but can't imagine it works much different for 40k. Here's a quick rundown:
You essentially pick a "level" of warlord you want to be your champion. Based on the power level of your champion. you get more or less rolls on the follower charts. For example, a Chaos lord on foot gets six rolls, while a Chaos lord on Manticore gets four.
You take take the corresponding number of rolls on the following charts:
- Retinue Units, usually minimum sized from thier warscroll. (Models listed are the max you can take in the unit, no additional models allowed, but you can take any equipment allowed by the warscroll. )
- Heroes: Just what it says, various single hero models.
- Monsters: Again, self explanatory.
- Bray Herd: Various Beastmen units.
- War Herd: Beastmen monsterous infantry and monsters.
After each battle there are various Eye of the Gods charts you can roll on for both heroes and units.
After each battle you gain 1 favor point if you lose and d3 if you win. The goal of the campaign is to get 10 favor points, and then roll lucky on the Eye of the Gods chart to become a Demon Prince. Once you have enough favor and win a battle after you ascend to demonhood, you win the campaign.
Seems like a nifty, quick little campaign system.

Walk the Path to Glory
01/12/15
It's a new way to play your games of Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar... and it's also two yes, two – serialised expansions, one for each game, that build up over the course of the Advent Calendar.
How does it work?
Path to Glory gives you rules for choosing a champion of the Dark Gods, gathering a warband of followers to his banner (either randomly or tailored to your collection of Citadel Miniatures) and battling fellow champions for power, glory and the favour of your patron god, with the ultimate goal of ascending to daemonhood.
What do you get?
The first release for each supplement is the core rules, allowing you to choose your warband and get battling straight away. Every subsequent day adds a new element to one of the expansions, be it a new scenario, a painting guide for followers of one of the Chaos Gods, rules for playing games in a particular location (like the Blasted Wastes or the Eye of Terror). Releases will alternate between Warhammer Age of Sigmar and Warhammer 40,000. Each day also brings a new Chaos-themed short story for the other setting, so there's something for fans of both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer Age of Sigmar every single day.
You can pick up the parts of the expansions that appeal to you, or you can subscribe in three ways: to the Warhammer 40,000 content (including all 12 short stories), the Warhammer Age of Sigmar releases (again including 12 short stories) or absolutely everything.
