Hi Greg
I totally understand your point of view - totally. It seems though that you think I've done this deliberately to rip you off? Or at least that's what i'm reading from the tone of your comment. I hope you will realise that this is simply not the case. Metal prices have been going up and up for years and I've absorbed them time after time to keep the end price down, but now, with the price doubling since summer last year, I have had no choice - I have had to reflect the costs in the price, whilst still allowing for trade discounts. This makes the models very expensive and it's something I can't avoid at the moment. But I have to maintain a minimum % profit on each figure or I'll end up even further in debt than the £35,000 I'm already in.
Rest assured that if metal price should come down the prices on those massively bulky monsters will. I'll also be trying to investigate way of offering them at more affordable prices, but I really truly have had my hand forced here for the moment. PLease don't take it personally.
What would you do in my position?
First of all: no, I dont think You're trying to rip me or the other customers off. From my point of view it's just not a wise decision to raise pricing as You did (100+ % in some cases). I think your calculation is just wrong: double price, double turnover, double profit. That is just not the case, as You will lose customers like me (not completely, but significantly). In woooooooorst case it would mean: double price, zero turnover, zero profit (or even negative).
Your example with the goblin is not reflecting the competitive situation. Of course You still have some "price-entry" products, but taking into account that GW has more and more very good looking plastik-miniatures, the price-argument is very often not valid anymore. Consider the example with Azaroth: when I bought it for around £20, the GW-pendant did cost around the same price - BUT, without wings (in terms of design and/or qualitiy both products were very attractive to me). So the choice was easy, I bought the Azaroth. Now Azaroth costs £50, the GW-pendant still around £20. Considering the price-issue the Azaroth is not interesting anymore (however, it looks much nicer than the ugly new GW-prince - but this is just my opinion). Similar situation with bloodhounds: GW around £30 for 5 pcs, Heresy 45/37.
Regarding a solution, of course I cannot propose one to You, as I do not know Your exact figures and Your mid- and long-term strategy. I just assume, that this extraordinary price-increase will not solve Your problem.
