Its not only the fact that at the time the codex was good, and now that theure are others they are best.
the problem is that GW took a dump while making this codex.
No 2+ armor option for HQ's...
2 Deamon Weapons, where in RoC we ha over 1000 combination of powers to make D weapons, in 3.5 we had 10 different Sweapons and evenin the Dreaded Gavdex, we had 5, now,..;just 2...
No Deep Strike mitigation, every freakin Marines can get a Beacon, we?, nope freakin stupid Dimsensional key, where you NEED to first kill a model, so lets say by end of Turn 2 or 3...
Still No Dreadclaw/Pods option, wich is absolutly ridiculous.

if you want to play a different kind of LR, you can still take the FW variants, wich are in fact Imperial variants once again...

Marines codex gets their Techys in an Non-HQ slot, we?, its a HQ...
VotLW, while beeing a nice little thing, its still very pale compared to ATSKNF, Hate...function only the first turn of cc, then its useless.
Zerkers beeing A1 base..., its the more laughable thing i've seen since i first played int his game...
A CC specialised unit, with no viable assault transport(LR are too overcosted), no Weapons options outside the Champ,whats so ever( 2 Plasma pistols?,...really?..., where are the power weapons, the eviscerator and Powerfists?), and once the first turn of CC passed, they have only 1 A..., loose the benefit of Hate and Furious Charge( wich was nerfed pretty darn well), for someone playign a Full World Eaters army since the last 18 years, it hurstn it really hurts.
Kharn who has no 2+ save or 4++ or EW or FnP, while in the fluff he gets killed, but comes back after.
i'm not asking for a EW or something (while he did had EW in 3.5), but at least something like St Celestine or Yarrick.
A guy transforming into a Deamon prince with Dark Apotehosis, not only drop his gear on the ground like an idiot, but looses all his special rules and Powers if he was a Psyker...wow...just wow, its actually not better then becoming a Spawn.
When rolling on the table we are afraid not of one result, but of 2 results, Spawn or DP..
Seeing a Cultist Champ morphing into a DP is fun, seeing my Jugger Lord with Axe and Sigil of Corruption or Kharn changing into a DP, just makes me want to throw the table and burn the freakin book and models...
We are still stuck with the same 15yeasr old models, Zerkers kit, was the first Plastic kit for Chaos at the start of 3Th Ed, 15years later, we are still srtuck with them.
No rules to represent the HUGE differences between the different Legions/Warbands.
But Hey!!!, Imperial Fists 2nd Company and 3Rd Company have soooo much differences between them, its not like World Eaters and Emperor's Childrens, who aside from the HQ choice and Marks are ...identical...
Outside Hades cannon and baleflamer, who are on 2 vehicles in the dex, no new weapons.
Marines dex?, the whole frakin arly gets grav guns...
And the list could go one and on the things that doesn't work or are simply wrong with this dex, is huge, but hey!!, we've got the heldrake....
