Neu: Sherman V (M4A4)/ Preview: Early War German Infantry

New: Bolt Action Sherman V! Supplied under the Lend-Lease programme to Great Britain the M4A4 was renamed the Sherman V by it’s new owners. The Sherman V would be the mainstay of the British and Polish armoured units during the later years of the Second World War.
attachment.php

attachment.php

This was perhaps the most populous British tank. The only downside was a high silhouette, but the Sherman made up for this with it’s reliablilty, ruggedness and numbers. Armed with a 75mm gun and two .30 cal Machine Guns, the Sherman V could handle itself just fine, especially when supported by a Firefly and it’s 17 pdr gun.

Preview: Early War German Infantry As we start to rerelease the early war range we bought from BEF Miniatures we’ve taken the opportunity to refresh some of the infantry sculpts. This has started with the Germans as you can see here.
attachment.php

In addition to tweaking the poses and bringing the weaponry in line with their late war counterparts so we have a consistent range we’ve applied our Figure Head System to the range – now the models come with separate heads which will give you more variety and posing options in your army.
attachment.php

While you wait for these great-looking landsers take a look at what is left of the original batch of BEF Miniatures stock – there’s not much left as they’ve been selling fast so don’t hang around – it could be a while before some of these are remastered and rereleased in resin and metal. You can see what is still available here.

Warlord Games and Osprey Publishing Announce Partnership

Warlord Games and Osprey Publishing are teaming up to create Bolt Action: World War II Wargames Rules. Written by veteran game designers Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley, Bolt Action is a fast, fun 28mm wargame that rewards tactical play, but doesn’t get bogged down with excessive tables and charts. The main rulebook is scheduled for a July 2012 release, followed by a series of books covering the armies of the major and minor powers of World War II.

John Stallard, Managing Director of Warlord Games, had this to say: “Osprey has been putting out fantastic books for wargamers for as long as I can remember, and having a chance to work with them on Bolt Action was too good an opportunity to miss. With their commitment to high production values, I know the book is going to be something special.

Richard Sullivan, from Osprey Publishing, added: ‘You would be hard pressed to find a wargaming company with more combined industry experience than Warlord Games. We are excited to work with these guys on a game that is supported by such a high quality, extensive, and continuously expanding miniatures line.

Warlord Games have previously published the popular Black Powder and Hail Caesar rules, and Osprey has released hundreds of World War II titles over the years, making Bolt Action a dream collaboration between the two companies.

Bolt Action: World War II Wargames Rules will be released in a full-colour hardback edition in July 2012.

New: Bolt Action Japanese Chi-Ha Tank!

Adding more punch and staying power to the soldiers of the Emperor, the Type 97 Chi-Ha tank.
attachment.php

attachment.php

The Chi-Ha tank was one of the most heavily produced Japanese tanks used in World War 2 with over 2,000 units being made.
attachment.php

It was armed with a 57mm gun and would fight in an infantry support role. It would later have the 57mm gun replaced by a more potent 47mm gun a new turret. This tank would be called the Shinhoto Chi-Ha. Keep your eyes on our website as this version is also on it’s way!
attachment.php
attachment.php

These light tanks were used with dash and daring and surprised the British by appearing in areas where they did not believe tanks could be used, the wet jungle proving no obstacle to them.
attachment.php

It’s back and better than ever! With all new tracks and running gear this ever-popular little tank hunter is just what you need to fend off the Allied armour.

attachment.php

The Hetzer (German for ‘Baiter’) was a light tank destroyer based on the Czechoslovakian Pz 38t chassis which was captured during the annexation of that country by German forces. Also known as the Jagdpanzer 38t, the Hetzer succeeded the Marder III tank destroyer and by the end of the war 2,854 had been built.
attachment.php

Its small size and low profile made it an ideal tank hunter and was the most commonly faced tank destroyer the Allies would come across.
attachment.php

[With it’s 75 mm PaK 39 L/48 gun was able to destroy nearly all allied or soviet tank types in service at long ranges (with the exception of heavy tanks) and its fully enclosed armour protection made it a safer vehicle to crew than the open-topped Marders. The Hetzer mounted a remote-controlled machine gun atop the fighting compartment which could be fired from within the vehicle. Whilst this proved very popular with the Hetzer’s crews it did need reloading from the exterior of the vehicle./QUOTE]

You can purchase the newly remastered Hetzer here in the webstore.
New: French AMC Schneider P16 Halftrack!

The first of several releases on the way for our early war French range, the P16 mounts a 3.7cm gun and co-axial 75mm machine gun. Despite being in the process of being phased out by Somua and Hotchkiss tanks the P16 saw extensive action in Europe and North Africa.
attachment.php

attachment.php
attachment.php

The crew consists of a commander and two drivers – one facing forward and the other in position to drive the vehicle in the opposite direction should the need arise. We won’t comment on the frequency of this strategy…

attachment.php

All models in this pack come with separate heads as you’ve come to expect with our figure Head system. This will give you loads of variety in your force.

New: Belgian Infantry And Chasseurs Ardennais Squads!

It would be rather rude of us not to have the Belgians rereleased in time for the Crisis show in Antwerp so we’ve pulled out all the stops to refresh them and get them back on sale. Based on the original sculpts we’ve taken the opportunity to give them separate heads which means you have the options of Belgian Adrian helmet, bonnet de police or Chasseur berets. Scroll on down to see what the new models look like.
attachment.php

attachment.php

The Belgian army numbered around 650,000 men (22 divisions) in 1940. Another 150,000 men were drafted in May 1940 to be sent to France to form reserve units. This is an impressive total of 800,000 men from a population of 8 million and was three times as large as the British Expeditionary Force.

New: BEF 2 Pdr Anti-Tank Gun!

Giving your brave Tommies a fighting chance against the advancing panzers this classic British Anti-tank gun has been remastered and is available once again. Have a gander here…
attachment.php

attachment.php
More commonly known as the 2-pounder, the Ordnance QF 2-pounder (QF standing for ‘quick fire’) saw action primarily in the invasion of France in 1940 and during the campaign in the African desert (where it was also mounted on vehicles in an ‘en portee’ fashion.
attachment.php
attachment.php

Although the 2-pounder remained in service until the end of the war most frontline guns were replaced by the 6-pounder as the 2-pounder was not up to penetrating increasingly thick German armour. As a result the 2-pounder was moved on to Far East units where the Commonwealth troops faced the lighter-armoured Japanese tanks and armoured cars, the Home Guard and infantry anti-tank units.

We’ve taken the opportunity to refresh the crew and they now come with separate heads as part of our Figure Head System.

New: French Renault R35 Tank!

The most numerous French tank of WWII, the R35 (and it’s later R40 variant) would serve well during the invasion of France and following the French defeat they would find themselves in widespread German use and in turn Germany would give/sell their Italian allies over 100 of the R35. Add this tank to either your early War French, German or Italian (or even Polish, as a number were exported there too…) armies.
attachment.php

The R35 (or Char léger Modèle 1935 R to use its official description)
attachment.php

As you can see from the photograph below, the Germans made good use of captured R35s, designating them as Pz. 35R 731 (f). In addition the Germans also used the R35 hull as a chassis for self-propelled guns such as the catchily-titled 4.7cm PaK (t) auf Panzerkampfwagen 35R (f) ohne Turm.
attachment.php
attachment.php

The R35 comes complete with opening hatch and metal French crewman. The French tanker has a separate head and we plan for more French tank crew/heads in the not too distant future.

New: Early War Waffen-SS!

Attired in their trademark camouflage smocks and helmet covers, the Waffen-SS were easily recognisable during the early stages of the war. Warlord sculptor, Wojtek, has been hard at it refreshing the sculpts we received when we bought BEF Miniatures. See what they look like and grab a squad or two for yourself here.
attachment.php

attachment.php

Well-supplied and well-led the Waffen-SS were a formidable fighting force. At the head of most major battles these will be a popular choice in wargamer’s armies.
These controversial but elite troops were at the forefront of the German Blitzkrieg offensive at the early stages of World War 2.

Our Early War Waffen-SS are dressed in their trademark camouflage smocks and helmet covers. The majority of the squad is armed with KAR98k rifles, there is a LMG team with Czech made CZ-26 and two NCO’s, one with a MP28 and one with a MP38.

New: Panzers 35t and 38t!

Both the Pz 35t and Pz 38t were seized by the German armed forces when Germany occupied Bohemia-Moravia in 1939 and took over the Czech arms manufactories. The ‘t’ after the panzer name stands for tschechisch - German for Czech. Both tanks saw service in the invasions of Poland, France and the Soviet Union. The 38t would provide the chassis for several variants including the Hetzer tank hunter.
attachment.php
Originally produced as a light cavalry tank for the Czech Army and also supplied to Afghanistan, Romania and Bulgaria the Wehrmacht used 218 captured Czechoslovakian from March 1939 onwards. It saw plenty of use in the German Army being used in the Invasion of Poland, the Battle of France and the Invasion of the Soviet Union.

New: Vickers Light Tanks!

As we continue to re-release the miniatures and vehicles we acquired, as part of our purchase of BEF Miniatures from Ian Crouch, we are taking the opportunity to remaster them for resin production. The latest two vehicles for the forces of His Majesty’s Commonwealth are two variants of the Vickers Light tank – the mark VIb and VIc.
attachment.php
attachment.php

The Mk VI was produced from 1936 to 1940 with approximately 1,000 Mark VI tanks having been built. The VIc was mechanically identical to the VIb but its .303 and .50 Vickers machine guns were replaced with 15mm and 7.92mm Besa machine guns.

Preview: Camouflaged Japanese Squad

Disguised with all manner of foliage this squad is taking the fight to the enemy! Here’s a look at the shape of things to come soon for the Bolt Action Imperial Japanese range…
attachment.php

For a variety of reasons our Imperial Japanese Army range has taken a lot longer to get going than at first planned. Happily we’re now on a roll and with the Type 97 Chi-Ha tank already supporting the IJA boxed set (and a Shinhoto Chi-Ha currently being worked on), we’re delighted to be able to show you this small preview of the next release for the range – camouflaged Japanese soldiers.
attachment.php

When you think about the Japanese in WWII there are a few stand-out images – the fearless banzai charge (certainly more effective than a bonsai charge…), heavy camouflaged snipers, and, as here, troops with plenty of foliage taking the fight to the enemy!
There is no release date for these just yet but they won’t be far from being available. In the meantime we’re getting stuck more sculpts for the range – more about that in a future newsletter though!
