-Should all entrys in all Books named in the same way use the same rules (e.g.
bionics,Land Raider,Assault Cannon etc)?
-Are IC with Retinue still ICs?
-May Units with Fleet of Foot use this rule in a turn they enterd the table via deep strike?

Codex Space Marines
-May the Techmarine be equipped with Servo-harness and Bike/jumppack?
-May the Techmarine use Servo-Arm with Bike/Jumppack?
-Does the Plasmapistol of the Servoharness count as additional CloseCombat
Weapon?
-May the ability "rites of battle" be used if the commander is not on the table (deep
striking or in a vehicle?)
-Does the familiar of a libarian slow him down if he uses a bike/jumppack?
-Does "Be swift as the wind" include Scout Bikes and Attack Bikes?
-How many places does an modell with terminator armour occupie, when transported in a vehicle?
-Which chapter may use Drop Pods?
-Does the Psychic Power "Fury of the Ancients" require line of sight?

Codex Chaos Space Marines
-Do the limitations concerning Infiltrate still apply? I.e.: May a Daemon Prince with
Stature, a model/unit with the Mark of Khorne or with a bike now infiltrate? There is
great rumour about this as the Infiltrate rule in the RB does not state any limitations,
but is supposed to replace the rules in the codices.
-Is the Slaanesh power "Siren" meant to work both in the Shooting and the Assault
phase, making the model virtually invulnerable? To us this would seem to be a great imbalance.
- How does the Lash of Torment work in 4th edition if given to an Independent character? As the model counts as a separate unit in close combat it seems to be useless: At least one model of the own unit must be in base to base contact in order to get the attacks, so the character does not count as being in CC and may therefore not strike.
-Do IC with a mark of chaos get a free chaos icon?
-Can you use “feel no pain” to ignore wounds caused by the psychic ability “mind war”,dangerous terrain or perils of the warp?
-What is meant with “area of effect” in the description of the rule “collar of Khorne”? Is this supposed to be the area, where the psychic ability CAN affect, or is this the area, where it actually affects? Can i.e. a psychic ability be blocked, which is not targeted at the bearer? Can the ability of a tyranid synaptic creature be blocked, if the bearer is within 12” around it?
-Can a model with a berserker glaive be equipped with daemonic speed or daemonic flight?
-If the aspiring champion of a Khorne berzerker unit gets daemonic speed or daemonic flight, does the whole unit not throw a dice anymore, to check if it has to rush towards the next enemy?
-Are independent Charachters with the Mark of Tzeentch allowed to take Veteran Skills?
-Are Screamers of Tzeentch an Raptors allowed to fall back in the following situations?
a) they fight against a unit and kill all their members
b) they fight against a Vehicle without a WS (i.e a Leman Russ) and don't destroy it
c) they fight against a Vehicle without a WS and destroy it
-Do you re-roll alreadey rerolled throws for choosing minor psychic powers? E.g., when you throw 3 dices and roll a 1 and 2 threes. You reroll the 3 and get another 3. Can you reroll this throw again?

Codex Tyranids
-Do multiple Lash Whips equipped on one creature stack?
-Do Lash Whips effects stack from multiple models equipped with them?
-Does two twin-linked weapons mean it's double twin-linked or two separate
twin-linked weapons?
-If a Hive Tyrant or Carnifex (MC's that can shoot more than 1 weapon a turn) take 2
of the same weapon (making them twin-linked), can they then fire both as separate
TL weapons?
-Does being Fearless make Lictors and Carnifexes immune to the effects of failing an
IB test (falling back)?
-Can broods without the line "must be equipped identically"(such as Warriors and
Genestealers) be fitted with different biomorphs through out the brood? (ex: only
buy 1 feeder tendril, since the benefits aren't limited to just the 'stealer with them)
-Are the Adrenal Glands for WS and I considered to be separate biomorphs for the
purposes of "same biomorph cannot be taken more than once per model"?
-The Shadow in the Warp power says "any Perils of the Warp results are nullified." Is
this just for your enemy or does it affect your army too?
-Does synapse make a tyranid immune to instant death by weapons that have a
strength over double the toughness value of the creature in synapse range?
-How does The Shadow in The Warp interact with the Eldar Runes of Witnessing?
-May deep-striking units choose to lurk on the turn they arrive?
-Can a warrior in a Warrior brood be given multiples of the heavy weapons?
-Can winged warriors be taken as an HQ choice?
-Can a Lictor hit and run after attacking a vehicle?
-Does a Lictor that deep strikes on top of another (friendly) Lictor get removed as a casualty?
-Suppose an enemy model deepstrikes withen 1" or onto a spore mine or mine cluster. which is destroyed, the mines, the enemy, or both?
-Are mace/scythe tail biomorphs subject to the benefits of rending?
-Was the split price for Barbed Stranglers on a Carnifex intended to be as such?
-Does the addition of Crushing Claws to a Carnifex count against MC's ability to roll 2D6 for AP?
-Do lash whips affect friendly models that are in base contact?

Codex Necrons
-How does the Deceiver's "Deceive" ability work when used against Fearless units? Do they have to flee in subsequent turns or will they regroup automatically. The first case would lead to strange problems where Khorne Berserkers could be "escorted" to the table edge.

Codex Demonhunters
-Who is the target of the mystic special ability? The Drop Pod or the
Squad/Dreadnought?

Codex Space Wolves
-May Space Wolves field two venerable Dreadnoughts? The one from the Codex and
a normal one with the "venerable" upgrade?

Codex Dark Angels
-Does "Stubborn" count against the limit of wargear a model may have?
-Does the Chaplain in a Deathwing Army have to buy "Stubborn"?
-If so,does ist override "Fearless"?
-May both versions of chaplains use the Blades of Reason?
-Do special characters gain all new benefits according to their rank?(e.g. rites of
battle?)
-Do the special standarts override the sacred standart in codex:sm?
-May Ravenwing Landspeeder Deep strike?
-May the ravenwing field a Techmarine if he has a bike?

Warhammer:

- WE:

UNITS
Q/ What is the base size of a Great Stag?

Q/ What is the base size of a Unicorn?

RULES
Q/ How do you resolve the effect of Bane of Forged Steel verses Eternal Guard Weapons and Armour?

Q/ Reference page: Elven steeds are referred to as 'fast cavalry'. Does this mean that characters riding elven steeds benefit from fast cavalry bonuses, such as a 360 degree shooting arc?

Q/ What is the movement restrictions for moving through the 'free wood' that the wood elves player is allowed to deploy in a pitched battle? Difficult or Very-difficult terain?

LORE OF ATHEL LOREN
Q/ Can you move woods off the board with treesinging (i.e. to avoid enemy life magic)?

Q/ The hidden path: 'The unit treats all terrain as open ground'. Does this just apply to movement, or can a unit declare charges/shoot through terrain it could not previously see through, since it treats it as open ground? Can they end thier move in impassable terrain?

Q/ Is the +1 attack granted by 'The Call of the Hunt' a permenent characteristic increase? If not, when does the bonus end?

MAGIC ITEMS
Q/ Must you resolve the spirit sword's second effect if the enemy model has already been killed by the strike itself?

Q/ Draiths Reaper's effect can be resolved in one of two ways - either successful armour saves made verses wounds from the weapon must be re-rolled, or a model wounded by the weapon (after saves) must re-roll successful armour saves for the rest of the game. Which is correct?

Q/ Can the Wand of Wych Elm be used to re-roll a dispel attempt made by another friendly wizard (i.e. one with the staff of sorcery)? Can it be used to re-roll sucessful enemy dispel attempts?

Q/ Do Dragontooth Arrows have any affect against a unit of single wound models? (ie should the second word be "unit" instead of "model"?)

Q/ What exactly is the duration of Gaemrath? The next Wood Elf turn or the next other player turn?

Q/ Can you charge after activating Gaemrath?

Q/ Can you activate Gaemrath in the other player's turn?

Q/ Does the Alter Kindred extra attack apply to the Bow of Loren?

Q/ Can a Waywatcher kindred take an extra hand weapons (which effectively requires two hands)? How about Asyendi's Bane?

Q/ Can a Waywatcher kindred take a magic bow and choose whether to use the magic bow or their mundane longbow with Lethal Shot?

SPECIAL CHARACTERS

Q/ Can Orion take his ward save verses wounds he suffers from combat resolution?

Q/ Despite being unbreakable, Orion's rules (and pictures) indicate he can join a non-unbreakable unit (specifically treekin and wild riders). Is this the case, and what is the proceedure should the unit loose combat?

Q/ Shooting at Orion is randomised between him and his hounds. Can the enemy still target his hounds 'manually' with shooting, due to their differing base size?

Q/ What equipment do the Sisters of Twilight carry? While we assume they have their magic bows, the text does not actually list them, nor the spears the models appear to carry.

Q/ The both sisters must fight in the event of a challenge. Does this mean that they must accept a challenge if one is issued?

Q/ What is the procedure for having both the twins in a single challenge, for example verses Van Horstmann's Speculum. What if the twins become seperated in some fashion? (Orc Club of Smackin'?)

Q/ If both twins are killed, is Ceithin-Har/Gwindalor allowed it's leadership test before is reacts according to a 5-6 on the monster reaction table?

Q/ Arahan's arrows are resolved in the same way as a stone thrower, but at S3 and allowing saves. Does the central hole still hit at double strength, and do the arrows cause D6 wounds?

Q/ Where is Arahan allowed to place the template on a targetted unit? Over a model she can see in an outside rank or over any model? If she is a large target, can she then place it on an inner model (because she can see)?

- Zwerge:
OATHSTONE

Q/ Oathstone bound characters 'may not move within the unit', but are forced to move within the unit 'to accept all challenges'. Can he issue a challenge if not in base-to-base combat? In addition, what if he is forced to move by the Bindings of Slannesh or the Club of Smacking?

Q/ Do the effects 2,3 and 4 of the oathstone cease to apply if the character is killed (i.e. is rule one listed as the exception?).

Q/ As the unit has no flanks, does it have to take panic tests from the Kislevite 'Glourious charge'?

SHIELDBEARERS

Q/ Can a shield mounted lord be targeted by shooting if he is within 5" of a friendly infantry unit, since he is on a larger base?

Q/ Does he move as a monster or a lone character?

ANVIL OF DOOM

Q/ Does the Anvil's unit strength decrease as it's crew are slain?

Q/ The Anvil is now a war macine. Does it sufer from all bonuses/penalies that a war machine would (i.e. Gold Magic, Shadowblade 'replacement' deployment). Can it be entrenched by a master engineer?

Q/ Can the anvil be deployed somewhere where a war machine reasonably could not (i.e. inside a wood, on an island in a lake). As it does not need LoS, these are tactically efficient areas to deploy it.

MINERS

Q/ All models in a unit must fight with the same weapon combination. If a miner champion replaces his pick with a steam drill, must the entire unit fight with hand weapons as long as he is alive?

Q/ The rules for blasting charges are confusing - must the unit roll to hit with its stand and shoot reaction? Is there one shot per shooting model, or one roll for the entire unit?

MASTER ENGINEER

Q/ Can you entrench an Anvil of Doom or a Dogs of War war machine, such as the goblin hewer?

FLAME CANNON/ORGAN GUN

Q/ 'These weapons are affected by loss of crew was described in the main warhammer rules'. Where can these rules be found, as neither weapon qualifies as a cannon, stone thrower or bolt thrower?

RUNES

Q/ Skalf Blackhammers Master rune; Does this rune override any strength bonus given by runes of cleaving ontop of the models basic strength? I.e. The axe, wth two runes of cleaving, strikes with S6. Howver, when attacking T3 models, will Skalf's runes reduce this to S5?

Q/ Master Rune of Breaking; What is the effect of this rune verses models with more than one magic weapon? What is it's effect verses demi-magic weapons, such as wight blades and yhette ice weapons?

Q/ Master Rune of Stromni Redbeard: The text suggests that the +1 combat reolution is applied to both sides result. Is this intentional?

In addition, does the friendly dwarf unit have to be within 12" of the standard, or just one unit involved in a combat involving a friendly dwarf unit? The text can be read either way.

Q/ Rune of Slowness: What happens if a unit fails a charge due to this rune, but their failed charge still makes it into combat? I.e. Chaos Dwarf Warriors declare a charge verses dwarf longbeards 2" infront of them. The Longbeards activate thier rune of slowness, rolling a 6, and thus the Chaos Dwarfs do not have a charge distance. Moving thier failed charge distance, they still make contact with the longbeards. The Chaos Dwarfs cannot be halted 1" away because they are 'moved as if they were charging' (WFB rulebook, Page 52).

Q/ Rune of Sanctuary & Rune of Warding: How do these magic resistance stack with each other, the oathstone, and with other character with the runes of warding? Is it possible to get a Lord with 3 Runes of Warding, a Thane with 2 Runes of Warding, and a Thane with 1 Rune of Warding, and a standard bearer with a Rune of Sanctuary in a unit for a massive Magic resistance(7) (or higher, depending on runic combinations to allow more runes of santuary)?

Q/ Master Rune of Dismay: Does this effect work verses frenzied troops, since they do not declare charges with thier compulsory charging?

Q/ Master Rune of Immolation: If this rune is used, do panic tests still need to be taken by units within 6" (if all the crew were slain that round). Can the enemy unit make an overrun move, even if it lost combat (as all it's opponents were slain in the first round of a close combat. WFB rulebook, Page 78).

Q/ Master Rune of Penetrating; inscribed on a grudge thrower, do hits from this machine become strength 5(9) or 5(10).

STORM OF CHAOS SLAYER LIST

Q/ What is the status of the slayer list in relation the new Dwarf book? Can they use the new runes or benefit from the new slayer rules detailed in the dwarf book?

In particular, can they benefit from Strollaz's Rune in addition to their 'look snorri, trolls' effect?

- Oger:

1) Is the Hunter with the Harpoon gun Move-or-Fire or Move-and-fire?

2) When using the Thundermace, after placing the template, are hits split between the units (like a stone thrower that scattered and hit a unit in combat)?

3) When a butcher uses a dispell scroll, does it end any of the spells he may have cast previously that are still in effect (as it would RIP spells)?

A--The rules for dispel scrolls are very clear. Any spell the wizard has in play ends, regardless of whether it carries the RiP text.

4) Do the negative (hits/wounds) effects of guts magic take place before or after dispell attempts? (i.e. if it is dispelled (by dice or a scroll) does the butcher still take the negative effect?

5) When using the Hellheart, and the opponent miscasts, he is treated like a butcher. Does the miscast result that effects all butchers effect butchers on both sides, and does it affect other wizards?

6) Does the unit hit take shooting hits from the special attack of a thundermace as it counts as stonethrower hits

7) Hellheart - Would a Slann of 4th generation or higher (who normally is not required to roll on the miscast chart) be required to roll on the Ogre miscast chart if he miscast while the hellheart is in effect?

8) Ditto that question for Tomb King Liche Priests who are also not subject to miscasts.

9) The gut magic description indicates that an opponent can dispell a gut magic spell at power level 7, but it also indicates that that can only be done in his magic phase. Does this mean the the only way to dispell a gut magic spell that is already in play is for the opponent to use his power dice to attempt to dispell them in his turn?

10) Units can only be affected by one gut magic spell at a time, if a unit already has a spell in play on it can a new gut magic spell be cast on it, effectively replacing the current spell?

11) Can a butcher, end a gut magic spell he cast, thus allowing another spell to target that unit, or is the only way to change spells to have the opponent dispell the current spell before an attempt can be made at a different spell?

12) What happens is a character with a gut magic in play on it wants to join a unit that also has a different gut magic spell on it, can he not join the unit?

13) What happens if a character with a gut magic spell on it joins a unit, do they then benefit from that spell, or only the character? In that case what happens if a butcher wants to cast another spell on that unit, it is prevented because the characters spell is currently in play?

14) If unit of Ironguts is taken as a DoW choice, which army list do they select their magic banner from? Common sense suggests that it is supposed to be the Ogre Kingdoms list but this is unclear?

15) How are close combat hits, wounds and armour saves worked out against a unit of Maneaters that is differently equiped? The different models can have different weaponskills and different armour saves.

16) How about ranged attacks at Maneaters?

17) What is the correct Ballistic Skill for a Bruiser? On page 23 it's listed as being a 4, while on pages 69 and 80 it's listed as being a 3.

18) Are there any spells or items that qualify as 'Ice Magic' other than those on the Kislev Ice Magic listing, for purposes of what Yhetees are immune to?

19) Why does a Hunter have the Bull Charge special ability when he can never join a unit, therefor he will not have the requesite number of orges to be able to initiate that form of attack?

20) Why are the Maneater models not WISIWYG, since they are armed with weapon combinations that are not allowed by their own rules? (I.E. A Maneater is modeled with an Ironfist [or possibly an additional hand weapon], which is not even an option according to the army listing...does this mean a revised version of Maneaters to include the weapon options available to the miniatures?)

21) Are Gnoblars that are crewing the Scraplauncher considered greenskins, as the special rules for the Scraplauncher do not state that they are.

22) May a Gnoblar Thiefstone be given to more than one character, like a Dispell Scroll, or may it only be given to one character (although that character is allowed to take more than 1)?

23) Do Ogres need 4 models in a second rank to gain a rank bonus as other races, or since their base sizes are much larger, do they require less? It seems rather like the rules are made so that Ogre units will always be small, hence usually outnumbered by their opponants.

A--That's an obvious yes. The basic rules are clear that its model count not model size and the OK book says nothing else. GW has to have considered easier rank bonus for Ogres and rejected it.

24) Does the Hand Weapon and Ironfist option for Ogre Bulls replace their Ogre Club, or do they still have it available to them?

25) Ogre Ironfist, on the spanish army book says that it can be used AT THE BEGGINING of any combat ROUND as a shield or additional weapon.
So, you can choose on your own turn use the Ironfist as a weapon (gain +1A) and on the enemy turn as a shield (gain +1Sv)????

26) Can an Oger choose not to use an ironfist at all in order to gain the Oger club benefit?

27) Can Maneater units that contain models equipped in different ways use those weapons in the same combat round?

28) If so, how are wounds distributed from enemy attacks? The Maneaters can have different WS, I, and Armour Saves. Are we to treat them as champions in the respect that wounds cannot pass between them?

29) Results 1&4 on the Gut Magic miscast table tell us to apply the results to all Butchers. When using the Hellheart, are we to replace all instances of Butcher with the type of wizard who miscast?

30) If not, in the case of result 4 is the spell merely unavailable to the miscasting wizard, or to all wizards on that side?

31) Are Thundermace hits apportioned to both sides in a combat?

32) Are Thundermace casualties removed, as from shooting, from the back ranks, or do they remove fighting rank models?

33) Are the Magical Gut Plates compatible with the Greedy Fist, in the way that Magical Shields are compatible with Magical Armor, or not?

34) The Greedy Fist requires a sucessful Saving Throw to "eat" the magic of a weapon. Does this only include Armor and Ward saves, or would the protective effects of a Spangleshard also qualify?

35) Slaughtermasters, Butchers, and Ironguts do not have an option for an Ogre Club. This is not vague in the rules, but wanted to make sure this was not a typo.

36) Would the Ogre Tyrant, if not within a unit, benefit from his own Kineater Big Name when taking Panic Checks?

37) When using Deathcheater, is there any specific time you must nominate the model which must reroll successful wounds? Of course, I assume this must be before rolling any saves, but can you wait until after all "to wounds" rolls are made before picking a model?

38) Does Beastkiller prevent the Ogre Hero from benefiting from the Stubbornness conveyed by Toothcracker?

39) Can any Gut Magic be cast while the caster is in Close Combat? Didn't think so from the rules, but just checking😉

40) As the Gut Magic spells are not Remains in Play spells, can the Butcher cast the same spell again on another unit of Ogres without removing from the first unit of Ogres?

41) If a unit of Ogres is already benefitting from a Gut Magic spell, can another Gut Magic spell be cast on them to REPLACE the first spell?

42) Can a Butcher voluntarily end a Gut Magic spell on a unit of Ogres (if he wishes to cast the spell again on another unit, or a Butcher wishes to cast another spell on the same unit)?

43) Will a Butcher reading a Dispel scroll bring any Gut Magic Spells cast by that Butcher to an end?

44) Is a Brace of Handguns at a -1 for shooting(2X multishot)? Seems to be a no as they are actually 2 weapons.

45) Can Ogres been seen over Gnoblars for the purpose of shooting or casting spells?

46) The Hunter's Base is larger than the other Ogres. Is he considered a monster, or large target or is it just to accomadate the base size of the sabre-cats?

47) Not necessarily a rules question..but why does the "Special Army boxed edition" of the Tyrant look just like the Bruiser model????

48) Will there be a model for Army Battle Standard??

49) Maneaters can be equited differently then the other models in the unit. The rules in the Main Rule book states that every model in the same unit must fight with the same weapons in close combat, with the exception of Champians and Heroes. So was the maneaters intended to count as champians for the sake of using their different weapons?

50) The Ogre Kingdoms book seems to be writen in such a way that it replaces the rules for the Dogs of War Ogres found in the Dogs of War list. Is this true? If not, do the DoW Ogres gain the rules for the common ogre, ie Ogre Clubs and Bull Charge?

51) Golgfag's Mercenary Ogres will they be updated becouse of the new rules found in the Ogre Kingdoms book? He is mentioned in the book and should match his race even if the DoW Ogres are not updated.

52) when bulls take the iron fist and close combat weapon combo, does this replace the ogre club (i would imagine yes, but its always nice to have the "official" answer)?

53) can you use the +1 armour from the iron fist from ranged attacks?

54) Does the hunter with sabre tusks count as a unit or still an individual character?

55) Can you deploy the hunter and sabre tusks independently from each other?

56) What happens when a yhetee climbs up a castle wall which is defended? Do they still require the 6 to hit? can they climb the wall to begin with?

57) How do you work out hits against man eaters using different equipment? Can they have a brace of hand guns as well as another weapon? Are they missing the options for additional hand weapon or iron fist? Can they have gnoblars?

58) What happens if the Scraplauncher misfires and charges 3D6" into impassable terrain?

59) Are Yhetees equipped with additional hand weapons?

60) Does the 'Look out below' roll for a lookout gnoblar replace 'look out sir', or is in addition to it? The terminaology suggets it is in addition.

61) Does the Harpoon laucher ignore armour saves?

62) Do sword knoblar attacks benefit from weapon bonuses of the Ogre accomanying them?

63) Do Golgfags Ogres and Regualar DOW Ogres benefit from the Bull charge rule? Do Chaos Ogres benefit?

64) The Ogre Gouger must end it's move close to the enemy. What if it is forced to maove towards a marked point due to Tittlating Delusions?

65) Is 'throttle with chain' treated as identical to 'thump with club' when attacking a steam tank or castle wall, or will it have no effect whatsoever?

66) Does the Brettonian Orcbane shield cause Gnoblars to fail their bicker on a 1-2?

67) If Sqrag the Slaughter becomes Unbreakable, does he loose his Frenzy? What if he is inside a unit at the time and it flees?

68) Are Goldtooth and Sqrag treated as larger than normal Ogres for shooting purposes, due to their larger base size?

---->Originally, we viewed familiars as part of the model, as many existing models have items like these (psyber ravens for example) on them. However, for playability sake they do need to be viewed as a separate model and thus on a separate base. Players are encouraged though to work out compromises in their games to accommodate things as best works for them and their models.

>
> On a related note, it would also be nice to know if all Imperial Dreadnoughts (i.e. Space Wolf Venerable, Grey Knight, Furioso, Moriar, etc) have access to Drop Pods in Standard Missions per the new SM Codex.

If they have access to drop pods they use the new rules

> Daemon Hunter Mystics and Drop Podding SM - whom does the Retinue target with their "free shooting" - the Drop Pod? The Squad/Dreadnaught that jumped out?

Either but not both

(3-9-05)
> When I fire a frag missile (blast marker), my opponent can chose the casualties he takes; he doesn’t have to take the ones under the marker. When I fire a battle cannon (ordnance using a blast marker), is it the same way or do casualties have to come from under the marker? It specifically states the former under Blast Weapons, but it also states there that these are just the rules for Blast Weapons and not Ordnance. The Ordnance section doesn’t mention how to resolve casualties, only how to place the marker.

Yup, its the same deal for blast and large blast. Casualties have to be in LOS and range.

(04-12-05)
Say I fire a bolt gun on rapid fire at a squad with members within 12” and extending out for say 20” (big brood of gaunts for example). I’m firing rapid fire, so I take 2 shots and get two kills. Can casualties only come from those models within 12”, or could the enemy remove them from models farther away than 12” (say 20” away)?

The answer is that models in range and arc must be removed a la page 26. When bolters fire twice their range is 12" so only models within 12" can be removed.

And some Dark Angel Q&A too - GW-Hivemind (Tim) [email protected]
Replies [0]. This Reply Posted [11/18/2004 11:09].

Some more from Pete & Andy, originally on B&C too I think:

Codex Dark Angels Characters:

1. The C😀A characters are replaced by those in C:SM. Are we correct in assuming that the following?

Grandmaster (C😀A) by Master (C:SM)
Master (C😀A) by Captain (C:SM)
Hero (C😀A) by None

That is correct

2. All Grandmaster only items in the C😀A are now available to the Master character in the new system and are not available to the Captain character.

This is not stated in the FAQ but should be. The assumption is correct

3. A character in terminator armour who is accompanied by a terminator command squad can deep strike in any mission regardless of whether the mission allows it.

YES

4. All Dark Angel characters in the new system MUST purchase terminator honours and the stubborn ability as part of their profile. Does this count towards their wargear points cost?

If it is an ability detailed in the armoury wargear section then yes it does. So terminator honours yes, stubborn no.

5. All Dark Angel characters in the new system MUST purchase terminator honours and stubborn as part of their profile. But the Chaplain is Fearless. Does this mean the Chaplain pays only the cost for Terminator Honours and does not buy the stubborn quality?

Stubborn confers no additional advantage so this seems reasonable.

6. All Dark Angel characters MUST purchase terminator honours and stubborn ability. However, if the character buys a terminator suit (which has terminator honours included in it) they only need to purchase the stubborn quality in addition to the terminator armour.

YES

7. If the chaplain MUST buy the stubborn quality, then does that quality override the Fearlessness?.

NO

8. The Blades of Reason are available to both levels of Chaplains in the new system.

YES

Dark Angel Special Characters:

9. Do Dark Angel special characters gain the basic qualities of the characters in C:SM? ie, does Azrael, The Grandmaseter and Master of Ravenwing all have the quality “Rites of Battle? Similarly does Asmodai have “Honour of the Chapter” and “Litanies of Hate"?

YES – This is stated for Asmodai.

Wargear:

10. The sword of secrets is not a “Relic & Artifact” Therefore it can be taken in addition to one of the Relics and Artifacts listed.

YES

11. The specific Dark Angels Sacred standards (Standards of Fortitude, Devastation and Retribution) in the DA: Codex replace the “Sacred Standard” entry in the Relics and Artifacts section.

YES

12. Do the Blades of Reason fall under the category of “Relic & Artifact”?

NO – only the items listed in the FAQ

Deathwing Army List:

13. Deathwing may take a Techmarine as an elites choice provided he is given terminator armour and the stubborn quality.

YES

If so, can he take the servo-harness while wearing terminator armour?

NO

14. Can a terminator armoured chaplain take the Blades of Reason ?

NO – they are not * on the DA wargear list

15. A Deathwing army may deploy using drop pods for their terminator, terminator command squads and dreadnoughts.

YES

Ravenwing Army List:

16. Ravenwing bike squadrons will continue to use the point costs, unit structure and unit weapons options specified in C😀A

YES

17. Ravenwing attack bike squadrons will continue to use the point costs, unit structure and unit weapon options specified in C😀A

YES

18. Ravenwing land speeder squadrons will continue to use the point costs, unit structure and unit weapon options specified in C😀A

YES

19. Can Ravenwing Land Speeders Deep Strike as regular C:SM Land Speeders can?

NO

16. Ravenwing may take a Techmarine as an elites choice provided he is mounted on a bike for the points cost specified in C:SM

YES / NO

If so, can he take the servo-harness while mounted on a bike?

NO – this was not the intention, I will add it to the FAQ

More from Pete: (3-9-05)
1) The DW Capt is not listed as an independant Character.
Should this read "IC, however may not leave squad"?

Yes

2) Definition of Imperial Armies includes Sisters of Battle, should this be taken to mean all Witchhunters?

Yes

3) Should the Definition of Imperial Armies include Daemonhunters? (as long as they do not take inducted guard, inducted space marines, or any other allies)

Yes

4) The definition of Regular Marines is those selected only using Codex Space Marines. With the new codex is this still correct? ie. can a DIY army selected from C:SM that uses traits, or a Chapter of Legend include a Deathwatch KillTeam?

Yes, although some event organisers do not allow allies.

5) Should the Librarian be able to purchase powers from the new C:SM?

He can change 'storm of the emperors wrath' for another power at the cost listed

6) Is there any chance we might see an updated DW Kill Team entry in WD? I was just thinking of the way I saw SOB lists appear in the Dwarf before the WH codex was published. I thought that was a neat way to involve the client community in the development process.

We have updated the original article and it will be posted on the website. Later it will be in chapter approved.

> 1. In the BA FAQ, it says that the BA cannot take any special skills. Does that mean no "cleanse and purify" or just no additional special abilities, like gaining True Grit and Counter attack?

Specifically the FAQ means that when the BA use a unit type from the Codex they may not select any of the special skills available to that unit such as tank hunters or infiltrate. As a non codex chapter they may not use traits.

> 2. Also, some people have said that it has been "made public" that BAs/DAs/BTs/SWs are getting their own traits system in their codices. Is this true?

I believe that was the plan but that is a question for the designers of those armies and it wouldn't be fair to prejudge

> 3. What is the reason for Land Raider Crusaders being 0-1 in a Blood Angels army when the new SM Codex does not restrict their useage

Balance - specialist chapters already have advantages of their own.

> 4. Would the servitors in the techmarine's retinue gain Furious charge as well, since the Techmarine is a Blood Angel?

No. The Techmarine keeps the ability himself (as per page 74 of the Rulebook) but it doesn't extend to his servitors.

> 5. When it says that "Blood Angels Librarians may replace the power or select a second power as described in Codex: Space Marines, does it mean that the Librarians have to be upgraded to Epistolary before he gains the second Psychic power?

That's right

> 6. What is the reason that the Over-Charged engine test was upped to 2D6?

To conform with the way dangerous terrain tests are conducted in the revised rules.

Space Wolves here - GW-Hivemind (Tim) [email protected]
Replies [0]. This Reply Posted [11/19/2004 10:41].

> 1. Space wolves generally have the same equipment as normal marines even though the name may be different, as far as I know only purity seals were left out. In any case do space wolves have access to the new equipment in the new codex such as the adamantine mantle or the combat shield? There is nothing in the new codex or the FAQ that addresses this.

No they do not; there are many Space Wolf items that codex chapters don't get so it only seems fair that it cuts the other way too.

> 2. Additionally the Librarian can now get a second power, can Rune priests do the same if so, under what circumstances.

No.

> 3. Librarians, Apothecary's and Techmarines either come equipped with their role specific equipment (for example force weapons, reductors, etc) or can purchase them at a standard package price (getting both narthrecim and a redactor). Space wolves have the equivalent priests are they allowed similar options until their codex is amended?

No

> 4. Techmarines can now utilize several types of servitors and equipment (harness) is this going to be the same for Iron Priests who serve the same function in Space wolf armies?

No

> 5. I would assume that even though the venerable dreadnaughts are different in space wolves, you would still not be able to upgrade your normal dreadnaught choice to a venerable as stated inside the new SM codex since you would then have 2 venerable dreadnaughts even though they are different in stats, abilities and costs.

(Tentatively) Yes. A fair point - we'll think on this a bit more too.

> 6. The FAQ states that Space Wolves characters do not benefit from battle rites or litanies, in addition to these abilities their counter parts are now allowed to be upgraded to a more powerful version i.e. there are two upgrade types of chaplain and librarians, can the rune priest and wolf priest do something similar? It doesn't make sense that they would be any less tough?

There is no option as present. Anything I do in this way now will prejudice the design of Codex: Space Wolves.

> I know the FAQ stated that in due time the Space Wolf codex will be revamped, but in the mean time these should be addressed so space wolves players are not playing at a disadvantage against their brother chapters.

I think there are many things the Space Wolves can do that other Chapters can't (I get plenty of mails from them too). I do not want to get into the situation where major codex revisions are only available as downloads so intend to issue as few amendments as needed to get us by until the Codex can be revamped properly.

Some new ones... - GW-Hivemind (Tim) [email protected]
Replies [0]. This Reply Posted [12/3/2004 14:41].

Do Space Marine Scouts get the "Scout" universal skill?
---->No

Do Space Marine Scout Bikes get "Move through Cover" skill?
---->No

Does "Be Swift as Wind" apply to Scout and/or Attack Bikes?
---->Yes - they are all 'bikes'

Certain older codeci state that an IC with a retinue loses his IC status (including being targetted in an assault). Could you clarify that an IC with retinue still follows all the universal rules for ICs as printed in the BGB, or does he still not count as being an IC?
---->He is an IC but cannot leave his retinue. The older phrasing was problematic as it implied an IC with a retinue wasn't an IC and therefore couldn't be targeted in close combat, hence the change.
All that is important is that IC's cannot worm out of being targeted by claiming they are not an IC if they have a retinue.

Can a mixed armor unit, consisting of terminators and power armored marines, ride in the same transport? If so, how would we work that out, capacity-wise?
For example: The Land Raider Crusader states that it can carry 8 Terminators or 15 Power-armored marines. This question is asked because of the possiblity of rules-lawyers jumping all over a Space Wolf player who wishes to place a Rune Priest in Terminator armor along with Blood Claws in an LRC, or any other similar mixed armor unit.
---->-Generally a terminator takes the space of 2 power-armored marines

In the 'Reserves' section of the main rulebook, it is stated that "Each selection from the Force Organization chart is diced for separately at the start of the player's turn". Do Independent
Characters (HQs) that have joined a squad before the game roll for reserves separately, or can they chose to simply show up with their squad? Furthermore, would the assumption that Wolf Guard Leaders and Bodyguards show up with the squad they're assigned to, regardless of
the fact that they occupy an elite slot, hold? Lastly, if a HQ IC is joined with a drop pod squad and has to be diced for separately, what happens if the squad arrives but the IC does not?
Just general clarification to make sure that by the letter of the rules, we can keep a character with a squad.
---->If the list gives a model the option of joining another squad like wolf guard leading grey hunters then that assignment is made before the game starts. An IC is a different matter, if you want him to turn up with a unit give him a retinue.

Can multiple independent characters join the same squad, and if so, is how many?
---->Yes, there is no limit although the force organization chart is a limiting factor

Again, there has been little to go off of for this question. Also, a spin-off of this question might be... "Can an IC can join the Wolf Guard Bodyguard of another IC?"
---->Yes

Is a character (or unit) making use of Space Marine Bikes prevented, by the nature of the bike (and the fact that one hand must be free to steer), from using a second close combat weapon to gain an additional attack?
---->-Not necessarily, this is determined on a codex by codex basis.

Kill Team Q&A from Phil Kelly - GW-Hivemind (Tim) [email protected]
Replies [0]. This Reply Posted [12/9/2004 10:10].

Kill Team Q&A

1) For the purposes of Kill team's mutable laws, does a Space Marine with a powerfist count as a weapon above strength 7?

>> Yes it does indeed. Such heavy duty kit is not normally dished out for small scale commando missions.

2) If the Kill Team declares a shot, and find you're out of range, does that count towards a Klaxon counter?
>> Yep! P 216, "Also add a Klaxon counter whenever the Kill-Team shoots".

Some more here. Please remember these are not official until they get into print or appear in a PDF or other official media! Treat them as useful gaming aids for now folks.
-Tim

1. During the shooting phase, when do you declare what weapons are being fired? To the best of our understand, you need to declare before measuring range - otherwise, you wouldn't know if you are outside of range. Is this correct?

A: Pretty much. There are several ways of doing this dependent on what the firing options are, so I want to avoid being too prescriptive as a rigid method may just slow play unnecessarily.
Broadly, you identify the unit firing, its target and the weapons that are firing; then you measure the ranges and proceed normally from there.

2. If you are out of range, do weapons count as fired? And if so, do you need to roll to hit if there are potential dangers?

A: If you say you are firing a weapon and it turns out that it isn’t in range then the shot has been fired and has missed harmlessly. (updated)

3. If you decide to fire the combi-melta as a meltagun but are out of range, did you just use your one shot?

A: Yes

4. If you are at 25" and tried to shoot a plasmagun, do you have to roll to see if you overheat?

A: No - it's a miss. No need to roll more dice. (updated)

5. Are you required to fire twice with rapid fire weapons if within 12". This should not matter with most rapid fire weapons, but becomes critically important with plasma. If I must rapid fire, I have to roll twice overheating on a 1 or 2. Many times people have declared that they are shooting only once.

A: You may choose not to fire with weapons at all but if you fire them they must fire at their maximum rate for the range. Troops in action are a bit less calculating than their controlling players might like.
P18 says that individual models can choose not to shoot.

6. How do I remove casualties from an ordinance template?

A: Assess casualties for the Large blast marker exactly as you would for the Small one. Casualties can be chosen from any models that could be hit by the weapon. This means in range and sight for most weapons but simply in range for barrage weapons that have fired indirectly.

7. How do you determine if a vehicle is hull-down against ordinance fire? I had been told that indirect ordinance ignores LOS rules. If this is true, would that mean that vehicles never have hull-down against ordinance? In the same vein, would squads never get cover saves?

A: Cover/obscured is determined based on the direction a shot is coming from, so in the case of a Leman Russ firing a battle cannon at a Trukk, judge it just as you would if the Leman Russ was firing its hull lascannon. It doesn’t matter if the battle cannon shot scatters, the initial line of fire is all that is important.

When it comes to barrage weapons, cover/obscured is based on a line from the middle of the (large) blast marker’s final position to the nearest point of the target. Use exactly the same logic as a direct shot but simply with a different start point for the line of fire.

It is possible for a barrage to land behind a wall some troops are defending, for example, depriving them of a cover save.

8. Regarding terminator armor and transports. How would you handle mixed armor in the Land Raider Crusader?

A: The easiest way is to assume a Terminator takes up two spaces.

9. Do all "previously-identical" items used updated stats? This is particularly important for Daemonhunters w/ Assault Cannons. You specifically addressed 2 examples (Storm shields and teleport homers) so I believe logically we can conclude that the same rule is applicable across the board.

A: That’s true. A Grey Knight Dreadnought or Land Raider Crusader uses the new assault cannon stats. Don’t make any assumptions about psycannons though!

10. What non-standard marine units can use drop-pods? There is a huge debate among Black Templars players about their "Black Templars" squads' ability to use drop pods. By the letter of the rule, they would be unable to use drop pods since they are not listed in the space marine codex. At the same time, Templars dreadnoughts and command squads would be able to use drop pods. Grey Knights Dreadnoughts would not be able to field drop pods. Are all of these interpretations correct?

A: Grrr. A question that forces me to check through every Space Marine Codex! OK here we go: -

• Daemonhunters – specifically Grey Knights, do not use Drop Pods.
• Dark Angels – same unit types as Codex: Space Marines.
• Space Wolves – Wolf Guard retinues and squads, Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, Wolf Scouts, Long Fangs, Venerable Dreadnoughts and Dreadnoughts
• Blood Angels – same unit types as Codex: Space Marines plus Honour Guard and Furioso Dreadnoughts.
• Black Templars – as in Codex: Armageddon – Black Templars do not have the Drop Pod special rule (just as they lack ‘And they shall know no fear’) so cannot use them for any units.

- Pete

General (biomorphs, hivemind powers, weapons, rules):

1. Q: Do multiple Lash Whips equipped on one creature stack?
2. Q: Do Lash Whips effects stack from multiple models equipped with them?
5. Q: Does two twin-linked weapons mean it's double twin-linked or two separate twin-linked weapons?
6. Q: If a Hive Tyrant or Carnifex (MC's that can shoot more than 1 weapon a turn) take 2 of the same weapon (making them twin-linked), can they then fire both as separate TL weapons?
7. Q: Are IB tests meant to be LD based or Morale based?
8. Q: Does being Fearless make Lictors and Carnifexes immune to the effects of failing an IB test (falling back)?
9. Q: Can broods without the line "must be equipped identically"(such as Warriors and Genestealers) be fitted with different biomorphs through out the brood? (ex: only buy 1 feeder tendril, since the benefits aren't limited to just the 'stealer with them)
10. Q: Would the benefit from the Symbiote Rippers biomorph take place before or after the effects of the Thornback biomorph?
12. Q: If a Tyrant or Zoanthrope fail a Ld test in attempt to shoot the powered up version of Warp Blast, can they still opt to use the low power version instead?
13. Q: Is an attack using the Bio-Plasma biomorph subject to the benefits of rending?
14. Q: Are the Adrenal Glands for WS and I considered to be separate biomorphs for the purposes of "same biomorph cannot be taken more than once per model"?
15. Q: The Shadow in the Warp power says "any Perils of the Warp results are nullified." Is this just for your enemy or does it affect your army too?
16: Q: Does synapse make a tyranid immune to instant death by weapons that have a strength over double the toughness value of the creature in synapse range (i.e.: Does a Warrior get auto-killed by a las cannon as its strength is more than double the toughness of the warrior)?
17. Q: How does The Shadow in The Warp interact with the Eldar Runes of Witnessing?
18. Q: Are SoB 'shield of faith', etc. considered to be wargear or an ability?
19. Q: If an ability, are SoB with these abilities considered to be psykers? (for purposes of hivemind power cancelling)
20. Q: Do lash whips affect friendly models that are in base contact?
21. Q: May deep-striking units choose to lurk on the turn they arrive?
23. Q: Does bio-plasma still hit a skimmer or fast-moving vehicle on a roll of 4+?
24. Q: Does an MC having Rending Claws count against their natural 2D6 (as per rules on pg 55 of the main rule book)?
25. (if answer to #24 is no) Q: Do Rending Claws and MC's natural 2D6 stack? (allowing for possible 3D6+S)
26. Q: Should the cost of purchasing 2 of the same weapon(such as venom cannon or barbed strangler) be reduced also? (since smaller ones like devourer cost less than buying 2 of them regular)
HQ

Warriors:
1. Q: Can a warrior in a Warrior brood be given multiples of the heavy weapons (in order to get a synchronized heavy weapon)?
2. Q: Was the Implant Attack option removed from the Warrior entry intentionally, or was it not included by accident?
3. Q: Can a warrior fire 2 of the same ranged weapon as one twin-linked weapon?
4. Q: Can winged warriors be taken as an HQ choice?

Lictor:
1. Q: Are Lictors meant to be subject to IB tests?
2. Q: When deep striking, if a Lictor scatters within 1" of an enemy model, will it be destroyed?
3. Q: Can a Lictor hit and run after attacking a vehicle?
4. Q: Does a Lictor that deep strikes on top of another (friendly) Lictor get removed as a casualty?

Spore Mine Cluster:
1. Q: If a Spore Mine deep strikes into base to base, within 1", or on top of an enemy model, does it explode before it is removed?
2. Q: Can the deep strike point selected be within 1" of (or touching) an enemy model?
3. Q: Suppose an enemy model deepstrikes withen 1" or onto a spore mine or mine cluster. which is destroyed, the mines, the enemy, or both?
4. Q: Are Spore Mine Clusters subject to IB?

Carnifex:
1. Q: Are Carnifexi(es) meant to be subject to IB tests?
2. Q: Are mace/scythe tail biomorphs subject to the benefits of rending?
3. Q: Was the split price for Barbed Stranglers on a Carnifex intended to be as such? (S is an 9, and BS limits S to 8, with only a -1. So it's same S for either version)
4. Q: Does the addition of Crushing Claws to a Carnifex count against MC's ability to roll 2D6 for AP?

Tyraniden:
-Is an attack using the Bio-Plasma biomorph subject to the benefits of rending?

-Do lash whips affect friendly models that are in base contact?

Codex Necrons:

- How does the Deceiver's "Deceive" ability work when used against Fearless units? Do they have to flee in subsequent turns or will they regroup automatically. The first case would lead to strange problems where Khorne Berserkers could be "escorted" to the table edge.

<div class='quotetop'>ZITAT</div>
-If a Hive Tyrant or Carnifex (MC's that can shoot more than 1 weapon a turn) take 2
of the same weapon (making them twin-linked), can they then fire both as separate
TL weapons?[/b]

Mal n paar weitere:

Codex Chaos Space Marines:

- Do the limitations concerning Infiltrate still apply? I.e.: May a Daemon Prince with Stature, a model/unit with the Mark of Khorne or with a bike now infiltrate? There is great rumour about this as the Infiltrate rule in the RB does not state any limitations, but is supposed to replace the rules in the codices.
- Is the Slaanesh power "Siren" meant to work both in the Shooting and the Assault phase, making the model virtually invulnerable? To us this would seem to be a great imbalance.
- How does the Lash of Torment work in 4th edition if given to an Independent character? As the model counts as a separate unit in close combat it seems to be useless: At least one model of the own unit must be in base to base contact in order to get the attacks, so the character does not count as being in CC and may therefore not strike.

Generelle Frage:

- Can the Hit and Run special rule be used if
a) the unit attacked a vehicle without WS value?
b) the unit wiped out their enemy or caused them to fall back?

@Neun-Siebziger:
