2 small groups of 6-8 minis. One priest+adventurer+gipsy sorceress+2 arquebusiers against a fallen angel, a succubus, 3 damned and 2 laziness demons. The minis look smaller than Confrontation. More like standard 28mm to me.
Every turn, you activate one mini, then your opponent one, and so on.
Each group receives a number of action points every turn (about 8, depending on the quality of the characters in the group ad the total number of the minis).
You can use these points in three ways :
- vae soli : the opponent looses his turn : you play two of your minis without the opponent being able to react
- vae victis : bonus to shooting or fighting
- some characters can get special ability for the reste of the game (like frenzy, ..), but you have to sacrifice your action points permanently.
Every mini has his card, ala Warmachine. You stick off hit points using a white board marker. Below a certain threshold of hit points, the mini becomes wounded and has decreased characteristics.
Shooting is simple. You throw a number of dice, depending on the firer's quality, the presence of some inspiring characters nearby, the activation points you use to boost the attack. You always keep the 5 best scores. The difficulty (eg. 4, 5 or 6) depends on he quality of the target and its cover. Each die that scores greater or equal than the difficulty is a hit and removes 2 hit points from the target.
Arquebusiers need two full turns to reload.
Close combat is resolved like two simultaneous shootings. But you ignore the damages done by the mini who looses.
Magic works through lemures (sorts of hell basic spirits) holding a spell and invoked by the magicians during the game. In the game, there were spells of explosion and possession. Then the lemure can be moved like another mini towards its target and has an effect only when it reaches it. Lemures are rather slow and can't run, but they can be activated twice in a turn, so the opponent have time to try to counter them.
Magicians have a maximum number of lemures thay can control simultanously (in the game, 1 or 2) and a max number they can invoke in a game (in the game, 2 or 3).
Some minis have special hatred properties. The priest hates all the demons and so has a 2 dice bonus against them. The demons, knowing that the priest hates them, have a 1 die bonus against him.
A simple fast game.[/b]
