NEWs

Sehr nette Sachen mit dabei! 🙂

Hey, Folks.

So, I had dinner with Dave at GenCon tonight, plus Scott (piperrider) & Joe from VA; and Matt, who was helping Dave finish up some last minute painting. Got some interesting tidbits at dinner that Dave said it was OK to pass along:

First up, there are going to be some tweaks to Shaltari points costs. In fact, some of these are already printed in the limited edition Core Rulebook that will be available here (at some point; as of 3 hours ago the books were in Kentucky, making their way to Indianapolis). For starters, Eden and Gaia gates are getting a points increase, i know it was 10 points more for Edens, and I think 10 points more for Gaias, but might be 15. I'll check when I get my copy. Spirit and Haven gates are unchanged.

Second, as part of the response to the feedback gathered from here on the Forums about Reconquest: Phase 1, Caimans are getting a points increase, at least 10 points, possibly 15, to be decided upon. The gun on the Caiman will remain as it is, Dave was adamant about this.

Dave said these tweaks were in line with their strategy for how to adjust Shaltari to help the other races be a bit more competitive. Most lists he sees bring 3 Edens, so that's a 30 points increase right there (already published and in print, the errata will be updated), which will cause Shaltari generals to make adjustments in terms of other choices they can make.

Another change which will be in the Core rules, but which are aimed at helping other factions be more competitive with Shaltari, is that a Unit leaving the table (such as a dropship carrying an objective) will be able to return to the game the next turn on a 4+, then a 2+ the next turn; currently such a unit is able to return on a 6 the next turn, so this is aimed at helping other factions get their units back sooner, since Shaltari units teleporting off the table can return right away. I see this as a very good thing for the other factions.

Got to see the CAD rendering of the first Scourge spacecraft for Dropfleet, and it is gorgeous, but "the biggest pain in the butt that I've ever had to CAD" (sic), or something to that effect, per Dave. It looks amazing!

Dave decided not to bring the large, scale model of Avenger to GenCon, at least not this year, as it would cost over £5,000 to ship it, and they could not insure it against what US Customs would do to it upon entry, such as "smash it apart looking for drugs". So, no Avenger on this side of the Pond, yet. Avenger is needed for a video trailer and other art projects for the Dropfleet materials, and after all of that is done and taken care of, Avenger will have served her primary function and might make an appearance on US soil. To be determined.

However, for GenCon Dave has made (and is frantically trying to finish painting as I write this) a 5X scale Beijing Class battleship from Dropfleet to have at the booth here at GenCon. I saw a WIP picture, and it looks gorgeous! Also making an appearance here will be the first Scourge Dropfleet ship, which I've mentioned, which is currently in prototype form.

Also on the Dropfleet front, the Shaltari will not have gate-like mechanics in space, as that's not how they work, but they will, of course, have shields. However, if you remember from previous info about Dropfleet, the way you determine range to an enemy ship is a combination of your sensor capability and the enemy ship's "signature", and when a Shaltari ship decides to raise its shields, "it will light up like a Christmas tree!"

PHR and Shaltari DfC ships are just in Dave's head, but PHR will be very much in favor of broadsides, and will from an aesthetics point of view have a combination of "curvy bits and straight, hard edges; think of a PHR rail gun like the Ares or Odin carry".

Unfortunately, I can't give y'all a timeframe for DfC, but announcements are forthcoming. 😀

On a completely unrelated topic, Hawk Wargames are very close to releasing a ... (wait for it...)... App. Yes, an app for both iOS and Android (at the same time!) that will not be free (sorry, Ljevid!), but will be very reasonably priced. The main app will contain all of the core rules and unit rules, and will probably (but it hasn't been finalized yet) be in the $10-$15 price range. There will also be "the books" which are extra, but will be very reasonably priced. For reference, I think all of the Warmachine/Hordes online material costs a total of $40, and all of the current DzC stuff (core app, plus books) will be "less than that". The app and books will be actively maintained, and you will just need to buy the app once, and it will "always stay current". This is Hawk Louis' brainchild, and I met the developer, Andrew, tonight, and he will be doing demos of the app at the Hawk booth tomorrow. I am very excited about this development, and you will see this app coming available for purchase "within several weeks" from now.

Finally, we got to see a few new, previously unseen units today at the booth, including Resistance "Sappers" and a honking huge UCM tank (looks like General Wade's ride to me) and what I can only assume is Hera's PHR Type 3 command walker. Some other stuff in there as well, and I'll try to get pictures tomorrow...

Well, that's all I can think of at the moment, and all that I can reveal at this time. More announcements from Hawk as GenCon unfolds, starting tomorrow. I have an early morning, and I'm 3 hours ahead of my usual time zone, which means that while its 12:25 AM here in Indy, it's 9:25 PM to my body, and I'm a night owl. So, I think this is plenty for y'all to chew on for now, enjoy, and I'll try to bring you more tidbits as the weekend unfolds!
