Q&A w/ GW Studio Pete Foley & Jes BickhamAmong lots of friendly discussion, a few pertinent questions were asked about the upcoming Warhammer 40k 8th ed, the future of AoS, and smaller games like Shadespire & Shadow Wars
Q: Given the new modes of play announced for the new edition of 40k, will balance between factions/races be a priority? Since Organized play is one of the 3 new ways to play?
A: Yes, rules balance will be a priority in the new edition, but keep in mind that GW has limited play tester resources. Make sure to utilize the Warhammer Community forums and email to address issues in the future.
Q: With AoS having a free online app/tool for list building, will we see the same thing for 40k in the future?
A: Yes, having a GW official tool for list/ army building is in the works.
Q: Will we see a reduction in the amount of codecies and physical books needed to play 40k? Or, will wee see a similar format to AoS?
A: While we don’t want to invalidate all books immediately, we do recognize the effects on the game by having so many books and supplements. In the new edition we will reduce the physical books needed. Look forward to the future.
Q: Is expanding the hobby and GW properties, to including more female players a priority?
A: Yes, but we see that as more of an issue with the community, rather than our IP’s.
(then noted that there is a new female Sigmarite character in the Shadespire game) Unfortunately the other questions asked had to do with marketing, or miniatures. Both subjects outside the remit of the the rules/writing studio. Much of what was discussed as irrelevant to the seminar’s subject, or already common knowledge. Only other big news was that GW does plan on having a US golden demon again with hints at it being at Adepticon itself!
