A few things worth noting if you didn’t watch the reveal announcement (not the trailer) and then the follow up interview Will Shick (head of Atomic Mass Games)gave:
– The X-Men will arrive with 4 possible faction leaders. Cyclops and Storm will both have leadership abilities representing their times as leaders, like with the X-Men Blue and Gold teams (respectfully). Will didn’t say much about the Brotherhood’s second possible team leadership, but since Cyclops and Storm are packaged together, some are theorizing Toad is the second Brotherhood leader.
– These four boxes will arrive for the game’s 1 year anniversary in Q4 2020, but to make sure they hit the shelves there will be a gap between Wave 1 and future mutant releases. It could be well into 2021 before we get our next round of mutant heroes and villains.
– They didn’t want to release a new starter because they didn’t want to make players think that they are two different games. They want the core starter to be the introduction to the game and be one cohesive thing. So if you’ve been waiting to jump into the game for the X-Men, I would recommend buying a starter as that is going to be your best bang for your money. Yes, you could buy the four X-Men and the dice and measuring tools separate, but you will not have access to a huge portion of the game’s Crisis and Tactic cards.
